ALSO wat has every1 got against optical mice????? I have a Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer and it is AMAZING. No mouse lag (even tho I may sometimes blame a deth due to that, hee hee) I luv my optical mouse. I had problems with it at the beginning, sometimes careering off in sum weird direction during a game of CS, but as soon as I bought myself an everglide mousepad everything was amazing. What have u got against the dear optical mouse???? They r so sensitive and so accurate, b4 I had a quite nice ball mouse, sumthing like the wingman gaming mouse or something but it was really chunky. Also the intellimouse explorer has 5 buttons!!!! U can programme them to do so much. In CS my scroll button ducks me and when I scroll it I choose weps. How could I live without that??? the 4 and 5 mouse buttons could be programmed to do nething!!!! Oh I luv my intellimouse explorer. Bit pricey tho when I bought it ($480 HK) But it was worth it!

Erm, I use the intellieye explorer thingy...bought it cos the red light rocks at night :)

It's shit for CS tho, well, I run 1600 desktop. I CS run cs at 1024. For some reason, there's a resoloution issue with the mouse when you decrease res. The mouse still thinks it's at 1600. Results in cursor "tracking" where the cursor follows a grid, making aiming inbetween quite impossible.

Either way, I do ok with it ;)

Intellimouse Explorers are clearly for people with hands like dinnerplates. Those of us with normal sized hands are unable to use them. Simple.

Where did you get the we hate optical mice from?

I have one too and its fucking brilliant, infact i've been an extoller of its virtues in forums ever since i bought one.

For games they are brilliant, fast and smooth and the extra buttons give you a gretaer degree of control.

I could never go back to mouse ball.

Stu- why not get one of the other optical mice out there, the white intelli mouse optical is for left and right handed and is smaller. I still prefer the explorer though.

Some1 agrees with me! omg! Every1 on the CS servres I play on h8 optical mice. And wat r u talking about big handed people only??? I have small hands, im 13!!! lol
That thing u said where the res can affect ur mouse is bad, I never knew about that. I run everything at 1024,768. So im ok tho I can have probs trying to aim at a tiny spot in particular .

I got the same one....it freaks me out seeing a little red light in a dark room :)

The recent ones have been made 33% faster as well.

I've noticed the "gridlike tracking" in CS with optical mice as well. However they work beautifully in any other FPS games, take for example Q3.. I can RJ and flickshoot just as well (if not better) than I can with my Wingman. Do you know if this "grid tracking" is an isolated problem to CS, and if there is a fix for it?

OMG at last! Someone else knows what I mean. Normally everybody just stares at me blankly as if I've gone crazy. I dunno if theres a fix, but you're right...it's only in HL.

Wish there was a fix, but it's such an obscure thing to search for

I'm thinking of buying one of those MS glowing red ones because I'm sick of cleaning my mouse every day, but do you need a special mouse mat/surface to use it on?

My current mouse mat has a printed piccy on it, and I have a plain white desk. Are either of these any good?

Aparrently the best thing to sue the mouse on is a textured white surface, a sheet of non glossy A4 paper for instance. I use mine on a textured white desktop, and it works perectly.

On the everglide site it says their white mousepads do not work with optical mice -i have no idea why, but i believe them, so i would say the best surface to use it on would be a blue or black everglide pad. Dont use a mouse pad with a picture, it makes the mouse pointer jump sometimes.

Yeh I got me one of those SWEET everglide mousepads, works a charm. 17.99 for the whole thing including P&P and VAT. Quite expenisve but well worth it. I looked at the icemat webpage but those pads dont support optical mice. I really do suggest an everglide mousepad. Just get the normal small 1 and set ur mouse sensitivity quite high. That is wat ive done even tho Ive always had my mice really sensitive. Optical mice r AMAZING. Ever tried playing CS with one of those drawing pads tho?

IM NOT JUST TRYING TO IMPROVE MY FORUM POINTS. I just forgot to add something to my previous post. I tried using my mouse on a load of surfaces. Normal mouse pads. My wooden desk a picture but none of those worked as my mouse would be somewhere and a mile off the next so in the end I thought an everglide mousepad would do nicely after seeing an ad for them in PCG I think.

LOL, u will see why I spent do much on a mouse mat after u try using an optical mouse on just ne surface. I guarantee that an everglide mouse pad is well worth it.
http://www.everglide.co.uk for details. Dont bother getting a mouse bungee or nething. Just the mouse pad is all u need.

I use mine on my desk - no mat, nothing, just plain white desk.

I tried order one the everglide pads but they never sent it to me after i did some online ordering so i went to <cough> PC World </cough> and bought the 3M Mousing Surface for i think £6 (could have been 7) and never looked back.

I love my explorer and it fits my hand perfectly.

Did everglide charge u for it? I guarantee tho the everglide mousepad is sweet. Keep the pad things on the bottom of ur explorer mouse clean and u can get really smooth movement on the everglide. Frictionless! Ok not quite. Apparently ice mats r pretty much frictionles which sounds kool, pity they dont support optical mice.

Forget using a drawing pad for cs...try using a touch sensitive monitor ;) True point & click

LMAO, LOL. That has got to be A challenge. I thought a drawing pad was hard! lol
You actually ever done that? lol

No, but I've been meaning to try it for quite a while. Set the screen up to accept one screen press as a left mouseclick, so you could point at their heads and BLAMMO!

I keep wondering how you'd be able to look around, and move...I suppose movement is straightforward enough, but "head" movement (looking around) would be difficult seeing as your mouse hand would be fgrantically stabbing the monitor at peoples heads.

Thing is, even a crappy 15" one costs 550 quid. That's almost as much as I paid for my 19".

Can u set ne monitor up to be touch sensitive? Sounds like a challenge

I got the intellimouse optical for lefties and rightys, coz i use it in both hands for different things. I have had some probs with the mouse buttons 4 and 5 tho. after playing for a while using these buttons in game I found that everything i typed was in caps. Even when i exited halflife into mirc! Had to reboot. Ive never used em since, so anyone know how to fix this or anyone ever experienced it apart from me?

Syd nope aint experienced that, it may be that you have them set as CAPS or some other button in your intelli mouse software. Its best to leave them set to browser forward and browser back.

Now that I think about it, Ill go without one of those touch monitors. I dont really need it, lol. I would use it once, realise how krap it is and never use it agn being a complete waste of money. And that thing about caps lock, I think that he is right that it may well be set to caps lock otherwise I dont kno wat the problem is. Also, u guys tried one of those Microsoft Internet Keyboards? I have one and it has quite a nice feel, I was going to go for the MS Natural keyboard but that may be a bit weird for gaming. Trying to reach to the otherside of the keyboard to press z, x or c to try and say something over the radio. So I bought the MS Internet keyboard which feels alright. I bought it in Switzerland tho and it is a qwertz keyboard! I changed the letters around by ripping them out and reconfigured it to thinking it was in the UK so its ok but my Y key where my Z used to be sticks out quite a bit and my Z key sinks down a bit. OMG, I rambled on for a while didnt I?

Syd, I have exactly the same problems, to fi><0r it:

Typing in caps/not able to respawn - Press the left shift key. I think the problem is caused by pressing mouse4 or 5 whilst holding a direction key and jumping (with right shift).

Another problem which you may/may not have experienced is strafe jamming on, this is also caused the same way, just press strafe again and you're sorted.
