Washer/Dryer

I want to buy one to replace my washing machine, but really have no clue what is a good one, and reviews on these things seem to be few and far between, or not particularly trustworthy. Can any one recommend one they have, or warn me against a particular brand or make if they've had a nightmare with one?

P.S. I know talking about this may upset your testosterone levels, so have this as a consolation:

I have an LG washing machine that does the job well. It doesn't dry though so I'm not much help I'm afraid. I was completely clueless of such things when I bought it so all I did was go into comet or currys (I forget which) and asked/browsed

I just went with the "Buy one cheap with a good efficency rating". It hasn't exploded over my kitchen yet, and it washes my clothes good enough for my manly needs.

Edit : I use the dryer once in a blue moon, since I'm cheap, and have a garden with no neds to nick my clothes.

Bosch is the best manufacturer by far. I have a Bosch fridge/freezer and a washing machine, both been going for 5 years with no faults.

Mate has fridge, washer, drier, all Bosch, exactly the same - no faults - and he has a missus and 2 kids, the missus is a nanny. The drier never stops.

I've never heard 'owt bad said about them. They're well made and just don't break.

Lies!! Bosch used to be a good make but they are now owned by Indesit and have the same insides.

One of the guys who plays poker with us is an engineer for washers/dishwashers etc and he says AEG and Zanussi are the best by a mile.

I think its vice versa btw, I think Bosch bought Indesit and now use the Indesit insides for all their stuff. Don't forget I'm having a kitchen and all new stuff so I have read into and asked about all these type of things, me and Samm are going to try a dishwasher for the first time in our lives tonight, I personally don't agree with them but hey ho.

Whatever you do don't buy a Bosch! They cost a fortune and break faster than Whirlpool stuff! Me mum's had two now, both broke after like 3 years.

we got our Washing Machine (Ariston - A 1435 S) some 8 years ago and never had problem with it.

Granted - its just a Washing Machine (we have a condensing dryer in the garage), but its got all the nice features like time delay, special washes etc

Apparently something else to consider is a gas dryer - MEANT to be more economical than electric*

btw, I have a cheapo high efficiency one, and it's now nearing 8 and is beginning to go a bit wierd on me. that said, it was quite cheap and so was well worth the dosh spent.

btw2, I'm never going for a washer/dryer combo again, because the dryers are always crap. I have to hang my clothes on a clothes horse to fully get dry after I take them out the dryer ffs :/
