I very much doubt that Branor is doing more DPS with his Shield styles than his Axe.

Axe being 100% Str based, he has a shitload of str, Shield being Dex based he dont have much of that.

Also U ever used slam with a Large shield? you any idea the wait time for the shield to cycle? try equal to a slow 2H weapon aka 5secs, its ludicrous. Add to that the end use of a shield style, its extprtionate and also the no tohit bonus, how bad would u feel doing this:

Attempt Slam, miss, Attempt Slam, miss, Attempt Slam, hit, 9 sec stun, Attempt Slam, miss, Attempt Slam, miss, Attempt Slam, miss, Attempt Slam, miss. Gets a tad depressing.

Saying that Crush(Enki) does 300+ with her Brutalize ( Kobold Warrioress)

Hmm, a guess at the different guards.

At low guard (I), you offer like a 10% increase in chance to block dependant on the shield you are using. Anyone using shield at low level, simply adds an almost insignificant chance to block for the person they are guarding.

Comparitively, well, at present, with a large shield, I can block multiple attacks on myself and other people all in one round.

I didn't start speccing in shield till post L37. And before then, my blocking ratio was CRAP (guard was just as iffy). However, once I got into the late 30's, I could block attacks on myself better, as well as on whomever I was guarding.

With my current spec of 44 (+11), I can melee a yellow-con Maa (L45/46) without styles, and block 3/4 archers without breaking a sweat.

The level of your guard/shield COULD (hard to test) also effect the radius of your guard?

All of this is of course just opinion, and hard to back up now that I'm 50.

Single hit, my shield (91% quality L49 shield) often does more damage than my 2-H Axe followup (Plague - 16.2dps 5.5 spd. 94% qual). But, the slam uses like 20-25% endurance, and the cycle time is insane.

Aye hence I mentioned DPS and end, as either you wont hit for more damage over time, or you will ut will run out of end after 3 shield styles, meaning its still not viable substitute for weapon styles in the long run But we live in hope, would be nice to be able to make a true shield warrior aka D2 Paladins

Well, that's with Slam, Solid, brutalise is a LOW endurance cost, guessing it'll use the same endurance as Havoc with a 2-H. I'll respec to 50 Shield, and then test out the following:

Hit, (hit), hit (block), brutalise, Havoc, Tyr's Fury, Havoc, Tyr's Fury, (hit), hit, (block), brutalise, etc. etc. And eventually toss in a Second Wind and IP in there as needed.

Most slammers, dunno if its only thanes, but they use small shield for slamming, still hits for 150-200 on lvl 50s and the cycle time is mininal so its worth switching to 2h

oops caps, well still Personally 1 small slam then, go back to 1h and sheild if u have brutalize liek my man says its possible to chain stun practically, but how often do you fight one on one? try slamming epic armour i missed 4 in a row, me 0 stamina vs Alb with big Hammer on a stick thing, i blocked alot but when u get hit its 350 hps gone vs my 70 - 90 i do to him in his fancy gay plate. Its just a question of time

It's about ressists.
Against alb plate users its natural that you hit for more with your shield (blunt dmg) than your axe (slash dmg).
Or someone with minimal crush ressist and high slash ressist.

My 14.X dps sucky GA spear hits for more than my 16.X dps Arcanium Battle Spear (Thrust) against assassins.

Need a crafted Slash spear though.

on the US servers i dueled by then 49 paladin against a lvl 50 troll warrior, he slamed me with a small shield for 300ish then switched to 2 hander and hit me for 600 and then 400 = Dead 49 paladin still stunned

btw my pally was no gimp he had maxed HP, str and con and a full set of AF98 armour

atm my 46 kob warrior is 46(+7) shield, and something like 21(+11) parry. Also aug dex 2 and mastery of blocking 2.

Anyone who said parry is just as useful as shield is simply wrong.

If a truck drove straight at me going 100kph, I'd probably block it ^_^

In RvR atm, defensiveness is only viable in PvP or when fighting people with no styles (ie clerics)

In 1.52 they say the rate of blocking mobs should be even to RvR encounters. If that is true, nobody will touch full shield warriors >.<

50 axe/sword/crush doesnt really matter at 1.52

6 gimp skill wasted points
