warning about pc world
long story that covers 180miles and 9 hours (5 of them in the store)
i pruchased a power supply from them (maplins was out of stock) in November night before yesterday the 3 fans on PSU must have stopped sometime in the night and the psu kept going resulting in a lot of heat so much so that the case panel burnt my finger and thumb pads (i now have little white blisters on them).
took the psu back to pcw they replced it i took it home and fitted it only to find out that the heat must off damage the mobo and possibly the cpu.
i rang pcw customer service they said ok thats not a problem take the tower in to the store and they will replace the parts the psu damage i though great it going to be sorted
i then went in to the store and it was far for that they basically said leave it with us we will look at it (i was going to have to pay for that) and then we will give you a report and you can contact the manufacturer and claim your parts back from them (wrong under soga 1979 my contract is with the retailer i have no come back on the manifacture as they only have a contract with the store). i was then told to leave the store when i said they are wrong and produced the soga with the section highlighted. as they would not be helping me. as they know the soga better than the document i have me (which was to soga)
i rang PCW customer service agian when i got home (60 mile round trip) they said the lady (dupty manger) who i spoke to was wrong and to go in and speak to Criss(store manager) and they would test the system there and then and replace the parts
went back (another 60 miles) criss wasnt there had to speak to deputy manager agian (she was slight more freindly this time) after about 1hour of waiting about they took the system in the back another hour later they said its working oh i thought great. i said can i see it working and then powered down and back up. was told no sorry you cant. ok i rang customer service back they told them to let me see it they then did
sure the screen was blue (just blue nothing else) they then said well thats soft where fault (i stopped my self from laughing) i said ok can you reboot the system they did and nothing happened, i said so if its software why has i just take you an hour to get a blue screen and now you have rebooted its its dead agian, a bit more fiddling and up come the cmos screen and stay at sreaching for ide for 30 mins.
they they said well how do we know that you haven't broken it your self i then point out the blister on my fingers they then said your lie this power supply is fine i said i should hope so as that the replacement. they then said well there dust in side here so you must of had it for awhile well yes i have had it for 3 months, they said so how do we know its not been speaked by another power suppply, i said because the mobo hasnt been speaked it due to the heat that was gerated by the PSU, they said impossible it would have cut out, showed them the blisters on the fingers again they said i could have done that to back up my story.
in the end i left i have gone to trading standards and they are following them with health and safety issue's the damage to the system, my expenses time off work due to his (i work from home doing resreach and cyberprofiling) also the misrepresentation in that they tried to fob me of say it was software fault
so all in all pcw have poor communication between there customer service department and the stores
the staff in the store's lie and try to fob people of
if they sell you some thing that damages your system then its not there fault
just thought you peeps should know this next time your looking for parts/system and your normal supplier is out of stock
i know next time ill have more patience and order from overclockers
