Thats reminds me of something I've seen on amazon.co.uk.

"This CD includes anti-copying technology that is intended to prevent unlawful copying of the CD with a PC. This may affect playability of the CD on certain computer devices such as PCs and gaming platforms."

If when you purchase a CD you are legaly entitled to copy tracks onto a computer, that seems a touch heavy handed. I own 100+ albums on CD, and countless singles, and I've ripped evey single one to my PC, because i have nice speakers, and its a darn sight more conveniant.

Just a thought :p

Im a lazy fucker, but... how much cash do the game* companys really make? With no facts I would assume (which is a bad thing :p) that they make quite a bit. And if they didn't want to be really greedy, they could lower the price and people WOULD (imo of course) buy more real cd's. This if it worked should increase the profits, to the original amount or even more, and make people a lot more happy. Its a lot better to have a cd quality song instead of a mp3 one. And the games are much better to have manuals for and playable online fully..

I used to download warez games. If they were any good I bought the original, if they werent I didnt and just binned the warez version. Id say 1 in ten games that I had an interest in were maybe worth purchasing so I saved myself 300 quid for every decent game I got.

No I didnt feel guilty. The money I saved I spent on my kids (and a bit of beer)

Now Ive enough experience to know when a games going to worth any money.

As for MP3s. Ive downloaded a load of stuff I own on record and cassette and this saves me the time converting it.

Now.....well I still buy the odd CD and the odd game. Cant be arsed with P2P anymore.

Im not sure that games producers, certainly PC ones make vast fortunes. Music labels however are greedy profiteering evil things and deserve all they get, including being ripped off. In fact I would go so far as to say its only now they are beginning to loose significant proportions of their profit to piracy do they realise they best start lowering prices before it gets worse.

I agree about owning the original product, especialy games, and im sure alot of people would think the same. I will pay for music albums if its decent although i think even £10 is excessive, but £4 for a single? Not a chance.

Ah GDW, you reminded me :p.
I also do this, ive downloaded many games and went out to buy them. (C&C Generals is one). More or less every game I play is online, so I have to buy the originals.. im young, I can't afford to buy games for £35 then end up not playing them or not likeing them.
If I can test these games (not just a small demo) then I have a very good idea of how the game plays, what its about, and if its for me. It also allows me to see if my pc can handle the game. They all have the labels on sayingwhat sort of pc you need, but a lot of times these can be specs that are unplayable, imo. I think games like Planetside prove that.

Processor 1ghz
Memory 256hmz (I assume this is a missprint :p)
3D card 64mb
Modem 56k

I currently have:
AMD 2000 xp+
640mb
gf4 ti 4200
512k broadband

I still lag on this game sometimes, and if I get connection lag the game is unplayable. I played on 56k at first, you just couldn't play the dam thing. Could only play in the training zone where there was hardly any players, a 56k modem just can't handle so many people in one area, period.

Ahh yes, the 'testing' element of warez :p

Seriously though, its a strong argument for keeping things like kazaa going. More than a few times I've downloaded a couple songs from an artist thought 'This rules, but I cant be arsed to find the others' and promptly bought the CD.

Even some artists have defended kazaa... although they probably went well known ones, so the publicity would offset the risk of being ripped off :D.

As for PS Krypt, the specs on the back of games tend to be the minimum i.e. it will run (as it does for you) but not nessacarily well, dispite how much better than the specs your machine is. My machine is a little faster than yours, and UT2003 runs like a slide show even with reasonable settings (at least thats how it seems after playing any other game).

Yes but its a bit.. well bastardly to put specs like that on that REALLY are not playable, ok it will load but thats not min specs as I see it. I buy a game to play not load :p. It takes like 1gig of ram tpo run smoothly and certainly broadband or all the people will wrap, lag or just not pop.
Edit: Havnt played UT2003 much but I never noticed any fps issues...

Erm it takes 1 gig of ram if you are playing with full or near full settings. And half the time it's not standard "lag" for me it's nearly always plain old loss and in huge numbers.

True, it should run well. Not played PS, but i know it experienced alot of patching. Perhaps they just didnt manage to optimise the game as much as they'ed hoped :/
