Hey, at LEAST it's a 2 hour ejaculation of effects and cool bots/tanks/stuff in your face.

And that's if it's a crappy film.

Film critic in the mail today says it's "the best action epic ever" and "Spielbergs best film yet 5 stars"

so i doubt it'll suck :)

Also read a review in empire mag that gave it a firm thumbs up

Just been to see it today. Certainly not Spielberg's best film (when compared to Schindler's List, Saving Private Ryan, Close Encounters etc), but not his worst either.

I haven't read the book, but I am well aquainted with Jeff Wayne's album having listened to it many times when I was a lad. The story is pretty faithful, most of the characters and locations are still there in various guises, the Artilleryman and boat being the two most obvious. The first sightings of the alien machines are fucking frightening, and the way they set about annihilating everything is genuinely quite scary. Personally I wouldn't take children under 15 to watch it.

Its very different from ID4 mainly because its told from a very human perspective. You have no idea whats going on in the rest of the world. There is no gung-ho feeling to the film, and the ending couldn't be further from the average 'USA saves the day' critisism.

Well worth the 6 quid IMO.
