The new skills system reminds me very much of DAoC. Looks like it will be possible to gimp that first character now:)

Example #1 - How a Base Ability improves with Mastery. Graceful Strike, a melee attack which causes monsters to hate you more than normal would be a base ability that falls into the Path of Vaul, which is the Sword Master's defensive-oriented Mastery. Every Swordmaster, whether or not they've specialized in that path, would have access to that ability. However, after a certain point, the damage and additional hatred will have reached their full potential, and will stop increasing. If the player then decides to use part of their specialization to increase their Mastery in the Path of Vaul the damage and extra hate will increase above that cap - and the further they specialize into that Mastery, the greater and greater the effectiveness becomes, however this ability still retains some use to players of other Paths who will find it useful for it’s additional Hatred generated since it is still better then many of the standard Melee attacks.

Example #2 - Purchasing additional Supplemental Skills. To stick with our hypothetical Swordmaster, for example, let's rejoin him after he's spent several of his specialization points to gain further Mastery of his defensive path (Path of Vaul). Once his Mastery increases sufficiently, he'll see that a new attack has become unlocked called Crushing Advance. This ability is a shield slam that not only does damage and interrupts casting but also briefly increases his chance to block attacks further bolstering his defense. In order to purchase it, he'll need to divert his next point away from increasing his Mastery further, and spend it to gain the attack instead. This is only one such example of an additional supplemential Skill, players will also have access to improved tactics and a powerful Level 4 Morale in their Mastery

And Keeps YAY :)
The first stage of changes and additions to open world RvR is under way and I’ve been cleared to share with you a glimpse of the details. We received a lot of feedback regarding warcamp camping, the battlefield objectives, and the feeling of the RvR area as a whole and we have been listening. We have begun making changes to the battlefield objectives to provide more incentives to players to capture them, as well as making them more dynamic and interesting.

Now for the part that has been the top-secret project the RvR team has been hard at work on: Keeps. Yes, you read that right – we are adding Keeps. Keep warfare, namely protecting your keep and capturing your enemy’s, will play a significant role in open world RvR and the campaign.

The first pairing to have keeps on Beta will be Empire and Chaos. The art for the keeps will not be polished when Beta reopens, but this is very intentional. Our primary goal at this stage is to make sure the game play and functionality of the keeps are very solid and you can expect to see a lot of “focus discussion” posts from members of the RvR Team as we request targeted feedback.

What about Siege? There will indeed be siege in WAR. However, siege will not be ready when Beta reopens. I will have more information for you as we get closer to having it ready for release to Beta.

Ofcourse there will be things that match. But the differences outway them too heavily. I think it's not Daoc 2, it's really going to be a different game.

looks good, i just hope there is a spread of useful skills at the top and not the pyramid effect in daoc. would be nice to have lots of different "viable" specs rather than the "go 50/42/26 or your gimped" attitude in daoc

i wouldnt mind if it was though;)
If it is i wont pay to play.
Know from wow some hard core guild wont let you in unless you spec exactly like they want. A friend got kicked for putting one point in fire instead of frost on his mage.. :)

Don't join a guild like that if it's not your style, problem solved :D

I would play if it was Daoc 2. But it's not. But I'm still going to play it anyway ^^

The game itself dosnt force guilds to remove people who spec in varyign ways.....thats the guild themselves.

Lords of England in all its many years have never forced people to play in a way they dont want to. sure we have nagged some people to try respec if we were desperately short of a required class (such as a healer or a tank for example) but to this day, i cant remember ever removing some1 from LOE because they changed spec etc.

Im up for DAOC 2. DAOC 1's innovative RVR was amazing and still pretty unique among many more 'par for the course' PVP games.

To be honest so far WAR bears no more resemblance to DAoC than any other fantasy mmorpg does apart from it being a bit more pvp centric than most.

id argue that WoW does that. especially with that number of participant caps on instances. DAOC didnt, cos if you didnt have, say, a shield warrior, you could still do most things if you took 3x as many people ;)

Not DAoC 2 but they are taking some big steps towards a DAoC game style.

that would probably mean he tried to play in a hardcore raid guld. and believe it or not, EVERY talent point counts if you want to remove as many random factors as possible.

the guild i'm in also applies similar rules on their raiders. atleast the ones that only raid. the casuals in the guild that only raids 4 - 5 times a month have it a tad easier but there are certain talents they MUST have if they want to join the raid otherwise things just wont work in the end.

and the more specialised you are for a cetain instance the easier it will get.

now i wouldn't go as far as saying that ppl get kicked out of the guild for missplacing a talent point or two. but they probably WOULD be expected to fix it.

Kinda silly to specc in a way that's not helpful for the guild/group when the main goal is to progress in the game not slow it down by being a 'gimped' specc tho? :x

I usually play in a guild that lets you have fun however you want to have it. I am not one for crying when you die on a boss/mob and wipe. Its a game.

At the end of the day if you are playing with your mates you are going to have fun.

Never said anything about crying did i? :p Just saying that, i assume, when most people go to raids and events they do so with the intention of doing good on the raid aswell as having fun with their guildies/friends and being a specc thats not optimal for this event could very well give a worse outcome than it would with a 'better' specc.
Not condoning guilds to kick people cause of specc tho, just saying that it's kinda silly to specc 'freely' if it has chances to lessen your progress in the various events you attend. :)

no me neither. but if i signed up for a raid/whatever that have the possibility to take several hours to complete. i really dont feel like failing on the very last boss just because to many had selfish specs :)

90% of the speccs work. U just can´t use the walkthrough u found on the i-net on every boss.
