Wanting a bluetooth mouse

Hi, I have a tablet which has built in bluetooth and so I would like to use a bluetooth mouse. Can I just turn on my bluetooth and the mouse will work or would I need to use the reciever / hub that it comes with?

I'll go for this one I think:

It talked about a secure connection from the mouse to the reciever so I want to make sure that it will listen to my tablet instead of the reciever it comes packaged with...

I will have to cover up the light symbol as that flashing blue light properly does my eyes in!

Just a quick post. It used to be the case that you would have to use the supplied receiver which comes with the mouse in order for it to work. You could use the mouse receiver to work with other products, but getting the mouse to work with the non-supplied receiver used to be difficult.

This was the case when the first generation of Bluetooth keyboards and mice were released, though, so hopefully things have progressed since then. Whatever the case, conflicts between the tablet and mouse ought not to exist, though. As you say, though, the connection between devices must be secure, especially if you had a Bluetooth keyboard.

You might have this question if you have a portable computer that is Bluetooth-enabled [read you have a receiver already]. The Wireless Optical Desktop for Bluetooth includes the USB transceiver because few desktop computers support Bluetooth. If your computer has Bluetooth built in and if your computer has the Human Interface Device profile, you may be able to connect the Bluetooth-enabled keyboard and mouse directly. If you want to use a specific internal Bluetooth-enabled radio, contact the manufacturer of your portable computer to determine whether the internal Bluetooth-enabled radio is supported by Windows XP Service Pack 2. Over time, this issue may disappear as manufacturers offer newer radio firmware.

Q. Can I connect my Logitech devices to the built-in Bluetooth wireless hub on my laptop?

Although this is technically possible, Logitech strongly advises you DO NOT do this. If Bluetooth devices are connected, the following issues may occur:

• Your Bluetooth stack my not have the necessary HID profile
• If the Logitech Bluetooth Hub is not connected to your PC, then you cannot install SetPoint software, and you will not be able to configure all of the buttons on the mouse nor the multimedia keys on the keyboard.
• You will not be able to recharge your mouse
• Logitech cannot test all possible combinations of installation with every manufacturer of built-in Bluetooth. We cannot guarantee the Logitech Bluetooth devices will work according to our specifications.

i have successfully connected a logitech mx900 to a sony vaio that had in-built bluetooth without using the logitech receiver. cant remember how i did it though, lots of fiddling was required.
