i remember when i cancelled mine..
so why do you want to cancel the account?
-because your software slows my internet to a crawl
oh ok, have you tried the latest version, it has x and x
I used it when they said you had free hours. Canceling it then was shit as hell and it cost me quite some money....and I was a poor young boy back then :/
i use aol and i love it... never runs slow for me .. used to a long time ago but newer software and i never have any problems with it.. well not any more than others on different isp's
Ended up locked in a battle with AoL about 5 years back before every Tom Dick and Harry were offering broadband - i tried to cancel an account as they hadn't been providing me with net access reliably (service was going down every few days for a week at a time almost), so cancelled. Didn't seem to be a problem, operator told me all cancelled etc etc.
Life was busy then, so pretty much forgot about it was they weren't billing me anymore, then all of a sudden had 3-4 letters in the space of a week chasing for payments etc etc even though i was outside the minimum contract term and had cancelled over 2 months ago. Tried to sort this out with them on the phone, and got told they couldnt speak with me regarding the account as it wasn't an active, paid up account.
Yes in case youre wondering this translates as: "We don't care that your complaint on this account is that it's no longer active and you state that therefore you shouldn't have to pay us the monthly rates. You have to pay us the monthly rates, for us to talk to you about NOT paying the monthly rates.
Ended up having to pay about £45 to my solicitor to write them an official letter advising the situation and that I would take further correspondence to mean that not only would the regulator become involved, that legal action against would be considered.
Strangely enough i got an apology letter saying i owed them nothing two weeks later, and most comically, the next day a piece of automated bumf mail saying "would you like to come back to AoL.".
aol is a bag of shit... its just bloatware you dont need, and it limits what you can do e.g. try and set up a router and connect multiple computers to the same connection - you cant.
