Hey

I just tried setting up some Wake on Lan and and Shutdown cmds on one of the servers where i work... And works "fine"... But seems like some of the computers doesn't catch the magic packet and other times it works fine on the same computers.. Is there a period in which the nics go idle? or anyone know where to look?

You could check the BIOS to see if there are any power related settings for WOL for the NIC, maybe there's some timeout value there ?

WoL is often more temperemental on some systems than others, and it can also be indicative of faulty NIC's and iffy batteries in the servers.
Some kit with built in remote management software (such as HP/Compaq's ILO) are also a little bit more iffy than they need to be with WOL NICs.
So, first things, as was mentioned already check the power saving settings in the systems setup, check that the batteries are working fine (thats more for waking up than when the system is running and you ask it to shut down) and check/replace the NIC if you have spares.
