sky had a win-win situation tbh. if Virgin pays up all is good, if it doesnt people will leave and buy sky instead, giving thm a bigger share in the market, which is more important then any monetary gains, and more money! personally im nt fussed either way, aslong as virgin keep the sports and movie channels ill survive. seems like sky being greedy and asking for more moeny thn its worth, and virgin jus tellin em where to go!

Quite a few customers lose one of the few channels worth watching on basic cable packages. Without Sky One the lowest package is pretty much freeview with very few extra channels. Many customers will question if they want to continue having cable, or if they can be bothered moving to Sky.

Virgin Media will end up losing subscribers, however it's a question of how many customers they lose compared to the cost of the channels.

Sky end up losing profit and have even fewer viewers for one of their main channels. They will probably get a few extra subscribers but this won't come close to the amount they lose from Virgin (supposedly £20 million profit).

At least BA had a decent Engineering set up and did not just farm it out to the cheapest contractor.

not true, the last guy ("retired" early) sold most of their engineering assets e.e plane plating, spraying, the seating units, battery charging facilities etc etc in order to save money in the short term. Now they are at the mercy of contractors :/

I take it back, think i will stick with Virgin Media, Instead of reruns of Simpsons, StarGate, Futurama etc they have given us a nice new programme picker on channel 119, press the red button and can watch TV shows for free. Just watched the Office specials last night

when i first heard of this i thought about switching until i realised most of what i watched on these were reruns, and i download most of the new stuff anyway, dont watch sky news, though might watch sky sports news, though can live without it

Sold Engineering assets? If you mean the Engine Centre paid for by GE it was a great move for BA at the time. BA sold their stake in it which was more a signal that RR were back in favour than anything else.

Seating unit?? Most BA seats were from Britax, not sure about now. Farming out small odd jobs like seat refurb (basically new cushions and fabric) usually makes perfect sense. Airlines all over the world do it. I was not referring to the small stuff like this more the major aircraft maintenance activities. A, B, C, D and major checks like most MMO's do. Virgin never had any kind of maintenance apart from minor cabin. They farmed out everything.

The stuff you are referring to is small potatoes tbh and pretty much every major airline in the world does it.

TBH if Virgin though Sky would let them give away sky channels on the webservice as part of your TV deal for the same money they were dreaming.

Both sides are stupid Virgin should have took the old deal again to keep the shows on tv as normal and sorted the web shite later.

Sky should shop being greedy shit heads and let you watch channels over the internet for free like Virgin were going too. But as i said if Virgin though they would get a licence to stream Sky channels for no extra they are mad this is Sky. doesnt change the fact that they have contracted out to the cheapest contractor, i dont actually see what your point is from all of the above other than to support my point :S

BA engineering only deals with BA planes and refuse other contracts straight out regardless of current work load, Virgin spend a very significant ammount on outside maintenance (back in the day when BA took on the extra work they paid BA a pretty penny for the service).
It is no "brilliant" move selling up all your assest when there was no real need to, because next time they wont have those assets to sell.
BA are now slaves to whatever the contractors decide is a fair deal. They have no choice but to pay, you just have to take a look at the catering phiasco not so long ago to see that.
BA is losing money needlessly and the reason is pretty simple, bad management from the ground crews to the heads of sections and on the wake of higher fuel prices and mr brown's tax brush they are feeling the pinch and are laying off engineers and ground crew. But all is not bleak they are slowly working though the structur eo fthe organisation to try improve things, whether this is just a PR exercise or not, only time will tell
