Hi all im making a hib toon and am thinking of rolling either a VW or champion. I will have a buffbot and most of the time i will be duo with a chanter or solo. Im also taking advice about race choices/specs for the 2 classes. Cheers for any replies

That depends on how you wanna play bud :)

Im a 50 LW / Valor and 28 Parry specced champ, really enjoying it.. you will dish out a lot of dmg in the assist train, and the backstyle is just.. just.. awesome. And Debuffs is just great too.

I've not played a high lvl Valewalker but they can probably deal some nice dmg with their nasty sidestyle chain etc. Sad that VW's have cloth armor tho ^^

But i'd say, go for champ. ;)

Whatever you choose, good luck mate! :D

Actually VW armour is not that bad. It's lower AF than scale, but it's weak to nothing, with decent absorbition (33% from self buff).

The real reason to make a champ over a vw, is: banelord, rr5, static tempest, better artis, the possibility of going 42 shield, and sadly player's prejudice (if you want groups you can't ignore this, and I'd really advise not going vw).

Champs are nice, but really if you want to play an offensive tank you should roll a BM since they get stoicism and some very nice styles.

Yeah, this question comes up a lot and it usually just results in VW's being torn apart and the person asking being told to roll a BM.

My VW has been the best character I've had since I started DAoC. And I've had a 50 BM before.. Aye they're more group friendly and they have banelord/charge so ofcourse they'll be the group character, but if you can bare to solo it really is worth it.

I have my cleric (i know mindless zergling) to group with this really would only be a solo/duo character with m8s enchanter so im not really bothered about grpability. Im gonna get a VW to level24 to see if i enjoy playstyle but am still leaning towards champ. Out of interest for starting points firb VW 10 str and 15 quickness any good?

I think, in general the VW will hit harder, if you know how to get the right styles off..but as mentioned champ has access to more of the fun artis/MLs. As I see it VWs are a distinct taste..but very potential class. Champ is good...but only if ToA'd out the wazoo for all the fun toys :)

My 2c.

50LW/50Valor/rest parry is nice.. but i still prefer the 50LW/42Shield/39Valor.. Slam is nice and with some debuff bonus you got the same debuffs.. nearly

Champion rocks in RvR, VWs don't.

I wonder how many good VWs you've seen then. Solo if played right a VW can far out play a champion, and again we can shine in groups depending on the circumstances.

But the big difference between 39 and 50 valor is that with 50 valor your opponents will resist your spells lot less cause the spells are higher level. And VW don't have higher dmg then champs lol.
