Question from a friend setting up a small business - third party VPN's - he is looking at StrongVPN at the moment. Any good?

What does he want to achieve? Remote access to his office, site to site ?

Yeah basically. He is a bit of a technophobe, so has got some 2 bit firm to do his IT stuff. They have lumbered him with an office full of machines running vista, and bascially he wants to work from home and allow a few members of staff to do the same. As I understand it, he has been warned against using Vista's own VPN service so is looking at StrongVPN or other third party solutions.

Don't know much about these third party solutions myself, just wondering if anyone had used them.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with using the inbuilt VPN of Vista/Windows 7. It is fully secure. The only thing that you need to be able to do on the endpoint router is to be able to create ACLs etc.

Yeah, I know. Problem is, he won't have a clue how to configure the router, and frankly I don't really want my phone ringing constantly - already get enough of that from my father-in-law.

His IT guy is fairly clueless too - had to talk him through configuring the wireless network over the phone myself - so they are looking at the third party stuff, with full support - I suspect the IT guy has thrown together some towers out of spare parts and thrown some OEM vista on, so I doubt there will be any MS support to speak of.
