Publicity stunt / cronyism.

Our present government is one of the worst for it. They're all public school toffs with limited insight.

Aye, not denying it - and I don't like it.

I've seen some of the university clubs and unions up close that breed the people that go on to these parties and tend to reach their higher ranks - and it's pretty worrying tbh.

It's very difficult to go far in the political parties if you're an outsider and don't have 'friends'.

Voting for police just made me thought that it would be nice if people could have a firm say where they're money is spent.

Be it schooling, police, politician pay etc, people would say where their taxes go and the country would form accordingly.

If people saw that roads were crap, they could fund it themselves. Ooh, we could do a social test on these forums :p

This assumes people know what's good for them and are able to think logically and rationally.

They aren't.

They'd spend it all on lining the road with diamonds in the first week.

I'm not sure how giving the public more of an opportunity to have a say in how their money is spent is a bad thing.

In principle, its a good idea. In practice, no-one wants to listen to the fact there isn't enough money to have a policeman (a real one mind you, none of your PCSO shite) guarding your house 24/7 with a tank.

Yes, rather than let specialist professionals decide with decades of experience decide where resources should go, we should let sun readers decide. I'm sure they will be better informed and educated and not vote for the most retarded candidate who shouts HERP DERP TOUGH ON CRIME TOUGH ON THE HERPPS OF CRIME. MORE POLICE ON THE STREETSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS, just so he can sit and masterbate in his £100k/year office and make policing worse. ( which is what happens in america ).

This guy is an elected Sheriff in 'murica! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Arpaio
He's racist, thinks obama is a kenyan muslim and controls a police force that is being federally investigated for it's racist policies.

Sorry tom, but the average voter is an ill informed idiot.

Like it or not, Sun readers also pay taxes. And these "specialist professionals" are mostly reactionary in nature, when a progressive police force should be the exact opposite.

Yes, and 50% of the voting population is more intelligent than that idiot.

You and Tom both have valid points, but I'm kind of erring on Tom's side ideoligically and yours practically.

You're right. It's going to be a clusterfuck. However, your (correct) argument is actually an argument for a better educated population.

More democracy can solve a lot of problems - less democracy can't. But democracy can only work with an education system that is orders of magnitude better than the dross we've got.

It'll also help with the crime that's the problem in the first place.

Perhaps we should just wait and see how the Scottish referendum turns out? :)

The education systems ok its the fact that parents and teachers cant hit kids any more and the kids cant be suspended or expelled or twated by a policeman or stuff .. heard a 7 year old the other day whos gran was telling his mum that he showed his arse to the whole street that the cops couldnt do anything he too young to be arrested while his mum just stood there giggling ..

Society is crap its all give now cba to work for it i deserve everything fuck everyone else ... and is why a populous police force wouldnt work.

Need to remove the ability to sue everyone for everything rather than taking self responsibility and remove all this i want to be famous for being famous so i dont have to work shite too ..

Everythings broken hehe.

Earn money, do what pleases you, get to the end of your life after having a reasonably good time and try to avoid all the above :p
