be nice to see some screenies of this. i know i have NEVER hit anyone for 1k with volley, managed 800 on what turned out to be a green con but most often it misses or hits for 300-500 depending on arrow type/armour type.

if your that bothered about it then rightnow it, they will check it out


and fyi my damage cap is 952 with 5.0 spd bow, think it was 1029 with 5.5, doubt people will be damage capping on volley unless your like lvl10 or something

Over 1k damage while using Volley is rare but still very possible, every arrow fired has a chance of adding crit damage, my capped damage on volley is 535 with a chance of crit damage of up to 532 (i think) = total of 1069 possible damage, with Falcons Eye 3 theres a good chance an arrow fired with volley is going to do extra damage. 5 shots fired in rapid succesion with volley could really hurt someone although i have never hit someone more than 3 times in the same volley.

I was at erasleigh the night you were getting shot for 1k+ a lot of mids were at bottom of hill but resting within range of my heavy longbow, hence you getting shot for 1k+, not very often i hit my cap but sitting down casters without bt up i will hit it every time. When you moved out of range i started my volleying.

Saturday night at renaris there were a fair few scouts firing volley at the same ground targets, add to that the possibilty of the crit add from each arrow then expect to get hit for lots on occasions. My personal best volley shot is 535 + 502 which was at renaris last night, can't remember who i hit but they didn't die from that shot anyway .

IMO its not overpowered, it makes scouts,hunters,rangers a valuable asset to any keep take/defence force, we were nerfed a long time ago its about time we were brought back up to the lvl playing field by having a use.

In RvR your shot can crit for 50% maximum. So the 1k Volley hit is IMPOSSIBLE.

u dont hit harder with bow on someone sitting then on someone standing.


535 + 502? u hit a guard or mob or something? cause u cant go over 50% crit in rvr. unless ur a zerker

I'm certain it wasn't a guard i hit with 535 + 502 as i remember mentioning it to my group at the time and whining about the person i hit still being standing, and i'm also sure i often crit for over 50% with both normal shot and volley. I'll get screenies the next time i do it. Would be intresting to see if the person i hit actually takes the damage that shows on my screen.

As for shooting people sitting down i always find it does do more damage, maybe thats because i'm guaranteed a crit shot, i'll do some tests and see. I do know that it seems like i hit my cap more on people sitting down though.

hunter dont have change to get slowest speed bow, and have shortest range in all 3 archers.

dunno why keep comparing to gtaeo?, dmg is alott lower in gtaeo what volley, and same whit range.

Anyhow, volley isnt more than a supression tool. If only casters had gtae it would be most likely that they could not be supressed by other casters due to archer attacks.

Volley does more damage than gtae at greater range, yes. But its on a 15 second timer while gtae is on a 6 second timer and hits _everyone_ in the target area.
I also bet that the endurance drain on Volley is worse than the mana drain of gtae on a caster who fully spec'd for that.

And not affected by nerfside either ... so mostly I get a GT ... start critshooting the battlements ... untill I run out of End or get nerfsighted ... then I pull back and volley

Rough volley cap for a ranger (and should be same for scout) with a 16.5dps 5.5spd bow at RR10 and +11 bow is as follows:

827 + (70 *3.7) = 1086
1086 / 2 = 543

So max you'll get hit for by volley without a crit by an RR10 max bow spec archer is 543 per arrow. Crit damage can be upto 543 / 2 = ~271. So 543 + 271 = 814. So the max you will ever get hit for by volley under any circumstance is roughly around 814, give or take maybe 3 or 4 points of damage. However, to reach 814 you need RR10, 50 bow spec, +11 bow from items, a capped hit and a max crit, this is only possible against a target with no resists, or at least no chance of making use of their resists (i.e. someone in grey armour).

Volley is going to be real nice in 1.62 but not worth it for a ranger still imo, not when you have a choice of IP, Purge, AP, MoP, Dodger, FE, MoA, AoM, True Sight.

Personally if I buy anything like that I'll just buy longshot as a once every 5 minute guaranteed bubble buster to follow up with a crit shot on mages, but I wont do so until like RR9 or something (i.e. never knowing the rate I gain rps ).

Like rapid fire, Volley is little more than a gimmick given to archers to shut them up, and yes, I have had volley and longshot and respecced out of them

Jeriraa, I don't think it could be that ranger bow bug, from what I'm told and could find out, that bug was registering as hitting for normal damage, but actually doing 99% damage. So you'd see "Blah blah shoots you with their bow for 372damage!" but actually be hit for 99% your hps. If you ask me, it's just brainless, unresearched bullshit spreading and paranoia as usual. Someones always daft enough to stand still with bladeturn and buffs down and get crit shot and one shotted then blames it on volley or something of the sort.
