I was in a 3-4fg keeptake force today, trying to take caer erasleigh. Weather was fine and defense was light.
However that was soon to change....
1-2 fg of albs arrived to defend and got inside... a couple of archers or whatstheirnames too.
Now here comes my question: How can it be that:
1. volley can be used at chars sitting at bottom of hill? (actually i left caer and ran a bit further down... was shot for 1k+ dam)
2. why r volley created so u can shoot through solid brick building? (I was standing inside gate building.. 1st door was down, when i was shot again for 1k dam)

This is an attempt to start a discussion, not a whine, since all realms r able to get the aforementioned ra.

Volley is a ground-targeted attack exceeding normal bow range. (I dont know how far since I dont have volley.) It's on a 15 second timer and fires 5 arrows in a very fast pace. These 5 arrows will hit random people in the targeted area. I think a player can be hit by only 1 arrow per volley.
Like all ground-targeted attacks no "line of sight" check is performed.

My opinion about volley is this: It should not be possible to fire from inside of buildings (if you dont use a window) nor fire into buildings. Firing _over_ walls or other obstacles is fine for me.

Most likely this will be addressed in the RvR expansion, like the pbae'ing through walls.

Any1 knows if you can hit stealthers with this RA ?
I mean , if its possible to target ground , use volley , and if there is 1 stealther hit him .

One day i was camping apk and i was unstealthed by an archer , [ i though , bah true sight and i went some other place , i came back later and unstealthed again by the same guy, i bet the timer on TS had expired but im not 100% sure]

I had that last night at the keep was uncovered 4 or 5 times by archer mostly the same one over a period of 15 20 mins so couldnt be ts and yes volley will uncover you like any gtaoe but the dmg 300-400 seemed too high .... is this dmg high for volly or right .. i sont think 1k dmg is right for volly but i could be wrong

Yes, volley can hit throu stealth. The damage equals a normal shot + critical hit.

Volley is 4000 range (outside clipping distance).

It CAN hit the same target more than once, but only 5 arrows max, when I had it I hit a healer all 5 times for around 400dmg with thrust arrows but the chance of that happening is around 1 in 10 billion volleys so don't expect it often. It's rare all 5 arrows even hit anything, let alone the same target.

Yes it can hit stealthers and unstealth them.

If you were hit for 1000+ damage, it wasn't volley, volley can't be used with crit shots so with a max crit you wouldn't see much over 750dmg from it on someone with 0% resists, again, very rare.

I'd guess if you were hit for 1000 damage you weren't hit by volley at first, you were hit by a stealther who'd sneaked round to your side and crit shotted you from an angle you didn't notice him.

well seeing as all realms have archers can't really see too much to worry about. Maybe reduce the damage a bit and increase fireing time.

dunno if it was cuz i was rezzsick nut im damn well certain i was hit for 1k dam 2 or 3 times, by same archer....
My main concern which i tried to say in 1st post is that volley is able to hit u through solid rock.... I just hope it will be fixed sometime soon

cant really say volley makes archers good...
when using it at a keep its mostly 'u hit bt, u miss'
that will however change next patch which will make it better

and that 1k dmg IS NOT VOLLEY! like plz omg get a clue!!#1#¤

and its GTAE so ofcourse it goes thru everything just like casters GTAE

I'm not kidding u can ask everyone who was on the keeptake, I even reckon the culprit who performed the feat(no evul intended).
And as for gtae.... mayhap that should be fixed aswell.
And tbh there's no reason to get rude, im trying to make an openminded discussion, not a I HATE ALL ARCHERS AND GTAE USERS.

I was obviously kidding , anyways archers are a good and fun class to play im pretty sure , stealth , ranged attacks , melee [ not much ^^] also they can choose what type of dmg they want to do, imo they arent gimped.

Yeah I remember that attack (first night we claimed Eras... First time ever we claimed a keep... we were attacked 3 frigging times in the first 24 hours of the claim <sighs>)

I got a lot with normal and critical shots. Don't underestimate the power of longshot and critical shot.

Most I ever hit someone with volley was around 500+200 critical damage. but that is rare ... mostly between 400 and 500.

Volley is strong but volleykills are rare ... I scoll up and giggle everytime I make one.... and one a night is an avarage I might just make.

When volley will penetrate BT (1.62) then it will get very strong. .. now it's mosty "You're arrow flies clear of all targets x 2 your strike is absorbed by a magical barier x 2, you hit the skeleton commander for 400 damage" <sighs>

So when I use volley its mostly 1. stealth to the battlement ... 2. set GT on sitting enemies on bottom of hill 3. walk up and give the lord a hug (people who know me will know I'm not kidding) 4. start shooting sitting enemies for 500+ cuase they're sitting

We still have ... against all odds ... Erasleigh though ... go tiny new guild!

So today I was helping mids defend caer renaris from the vile albs, and once again i get hit for 1k dam, this time however I was pritty certain it wasent a stealther, and to add a little bonus to it, I was hit will being in the closed room of the keep.... U still believe thats a fair ability for the volley to have?

scouts have it
rangers have it
hunters have it

all GTAE can hit through walls into closed roms, be it earthwizzies or hib/mid GTAE casters, or rtebuchets/palitones etc.

you might have started this as a serious discussion but now you´re just whining

its MINIMUM 66% of ur bows max range....... it can be used to over 5k range if ur standing on a hill

Addlcove seeing as magic is magic, and thats a fuzzy thing imaginable thats ok.
U can call it whining or whatever u like, but this fact, that u in a radius of 5k, when standing on a hill, can shoot at everything including through houses, makes it damn near impossible to defend a keep from a casters point of view.
U tend to get pissed, and feel like whining when u in the matter of 5 mins die 4 times, albeit only 1 time from 1k dam the other from 2-3 combined volleys.

Not after 1.62 <grins>

and we've had 8 scouts volleying Renaris saturday evening ... and still getting dotted all over the place ... so don't worry Snot ... defending keeps is still very possible for good casters

your only partly right, penetrating arrow will go through bt's cast by other ppl but NOT through self cast bt's

In 1.62, Volley - like Longshot - will penetrate any BT.

Luckily casters aint my only chars, so i guess i do have a chance.
But tbh I dont care about the 1k dam, I care about the arrows penetrating the mainkeep.... Guess im just to bound in the real world.
