It could be my cheap tacky mic, but I cant set my mic up on my Sounblaster 64pci with XP. All the other sounds are spot on, just me that dosnt come out unless I really SHOUT, and then its a mess.:(

(and dont tell me to drop XP, it took that long to set it up, that I aint givin up yet)

Yeah i bought a decent mic which turned out to be absolute crap.

So i turned back to the trusted desk mic, i don't think i'll be spending any more money on a new one anytime soon.

Voice ain't realy that great anyway, the apeal soon wears off, if all you do is public bash.

I agree, voice on pubs aint worth it, but its good for clan matches, RW is better, but too laggy for us nasty HPBers.

CS voice is much clearer and better for HPB's in clangames. However Valve didn't give us the option to talk while dead. It would have been easy for them to add a servside variable that let you talk to the living while dead, specially for clan games.

RW lets you do this and thus gets used, however RW is still very bad software, sounds quality varies dramatically, it wont run on some setups and can be a pain to setup for a whole clan.

I use a Hercules Game Theatre XP, brilliant. Surround sound, even through headphones! It has got me called a wallhacker a couple of times :)

My view exactly. Why bother with a surround-sound card if you don't have the speakers?

I recently had to replace my old ISA sound card as it finally gave up. Bought a Creative PCI512 for £30 from my local Staples which does the job nicely and has EAX hardware stuff. Sounds beefier than my old card as well as handling whatever's thrown at it. Very pleased.

You can pick up the PCI128 version for £17.
