Voice Communication Issues

I got a couple of identical microphones for playing CS with, one for each of the two computers that share my home cable connection.

Both microphones work swimmingly in MSN messenger and sound recorder on either of the computers. The computer running a Soundblaster PCI 128 also works fine with either of the microphones while playing CS.

The problem is with the computer using a Soundblaster PCI 512. The quality of the communications to other players is either too quiet (if not using the +20dB boost) or when using the +20dB it becomes almost laggy - with gaps in the words. I have been playing with CS and Win XP settings but I can't seem to find any reasonable solution with which I can play the game on this machine. The web does not seem to have any information on voice communication in CS other than the very basics.. does anybody know a good guide to getting voice communications working correctly or has anybody experienced any similar problems themselves?

Any help would be greately appreciated.

Regards,

Richard

Sounds like Win XP has an issue with the CS use of your sound card (have you got XP on the other machine?).

If you aint using XP on your other sytem (the one that works) its prolly XP mucking stuff up.
Could be XP ballsing CS or XP ballsing the sound card, or maybe even just XP ballsing :)

I use Win ME atm and I just mute the mic in the Playback section and select it in the Record section on my Play Control settings. According to others it's like me talking on the telephone (ie: bloody good). I dont use +20db boost either.

Apart from this I dont think I can help.
