Just cancelled my internet with VM due to it being shat at nights (crap download speed/awful game pings) in an attempt to get me to stay the guy told me things -

The 4mb will be 10mb for the same price and they are bringing out 50mb by the end of the year.

Very good I guess but will they remove the download restrictions that were put in place? Doubtful, so those speeds are actually useless. What the hell are they thinking giving you those uber speeds then restricting your speed at night?

Does cable suffer from contention? Is there a point for restricting the speed? I was always lead to believe cable does not have contention issues like ADSL.

it doesnt have contention issues the same but it stil has contention . there is only so much band width at your street cabinet so if you got a lot of ppl maxin their connections there you will find some slow down.

Which is what i suspect you are getting. As I got the 20MB package and get no noticable slow down in the evenings.

Also depends how much you are downloading as to if the restrictions kick in ,, is it 750mb between 4 and midnight for the 4mb connection, im not sure .. i know its 3gb for the 20mb connection and i dont it that and even if i do it only slows it to 5mb which is still more than enough

edit :if your going to go adsl dont go with BT at the moment as they seem to be shocking with their traffic shaping

I'm already with them Dys, hence me cancelling VM braodband.

Be are the best ADSL provider I have ever had on every aspect bar none.

I live far away from the exchange though so I only get about 4mb, not their fault.
