What kind of scary things? It was fine last time I used it, although it was slightly slower than XP for games.

Well, it can apparently be a bit vocal with security warnings and having not used it in any great depth I don't know how customisable that side of things is.

However, the accepted feeling is that it's significantly better than XP and since adoption of it is inevitable anyway, I'd say go for it :)

I plan on upgrading as soon as its out. :D

I hope those security warnings have been toned down a lot since the first public beta.

Im using Vista now i have not had any problems yet apart from Hitman Blood Money only running with dx9.

But you will need to turn User Account Security off of every thing you click it jumps up and asks if you meant to do that. You click control pannel. It jumps up Control Pannel is trying to open do you want to allow it! It dose remember but it still has to be turned off :)

Agree with soze on that - so far it's quite good - for business use you certainly shouldn't have any issues.

The 2 large gripes I have at the moment:

Creative hardware - Don't expect working drivers for, probably ever. These folks are getting worse than ATI for poor/no drivers.

DRM - You wont be bothered with this when you're setting up business but those of us at home may be getting a little miffed with Vista "degrading" your PC to play HDDVD/BlueRay films. With luck, this new batch of DRM evil will die the same death that Sony is suffering.

Or maybe not.

Performance wise even on my aging 32bit Barton 3200 - its as quick as XP in games BUT it does appear to be leaking memory like a cullinder from somewhere. Not sure if thats Vista, my hardware or something else though.

Befor i got my new mother board and pcu Vista was a pig. Now though it runs really smooth i think both had newish drivers on the cd and Vista recognised both instantly. So now it running real nice with aero running it uses 30% ram out of 2gig.

And im running Vista RTM at the mo and it has not done anything screwy with my music yet playing downloaded shite and stuff i ripped works on other machine so so far so good

I'm running Vista. I got it free through my universities MSDNAA programme :D

I quite like it. The only thing I had a problem with is sound drivers for my Soundblaster Live! but eventually I found some though they don't support EAX and the interface is awful they're fine for most things, not as great for games due to the lack of EAX but they're ok.

It runs as fast as XP on my computer and it's a 2800 barton.

ATI's drivers are pretty good but they don't support OpenGL AT ALL.

I also turned off UAC it just trains you to press yes to everything anyway. Not to mention it's incredibly annoying.

Games seem to run about 5% slower than XP though some seem to run exactly the same. I think this is only due to vistas large memory consumption. It usually sits around 50% of my 1gb.

Overall I'm fairly impressed but it's not really much better than XP and I certainly wouldn't pay for it.

We don't get to download from the site :( I actually had to go to the tutor in charge of it and get a physical cd and key.

I have a 2800 and a 9800pro. Runs just fine. No worse than XP (Slightly worse in some games though).

Its on MSDN as a Release to Manufaturer version i still not not belive this is the final release as there will be a Release to Public or whatever they call it, when every one has the drivers sorted.

And Vista runs on some real slow systems if you have modern drivers its only when you run Aero that you start to need any grunt. But with out aero why would you upgrade :)
