I can't find this anywhere else in the forum so thought I would post it here. Microsoft have released some new updates to their download site, some of which improve performance and reliability, including improved startup speeds. I'm sure these will appear on Windows Update next Tuesday, but for those who want them early, here are the links to the Knowledgebase Article for each update - they include links to both x86 and x64 versions of the updates:
An update is available that improves the compatibility, reliability, and stability of Windows Vista
Cumulative update rollup for USB core components in Windows Vista
October 2007 Cumulative Update for Media Center for Windows Vista
The Knowledge Base (KB) Article You Requested Is Currently Not Available
I'm downloading these at the moment so I'll post any observations on improved performance after I've installed them
