Hi.

I'm currently running Windows Vista 32 bit on a high end machine. It had been playing games just fine but now it won't run certain games. The frustrating part is that at one stage they were running fine. I've chosen properites and compatability and run the games on xp mode and as an administartor. But still no joy.

It get to the part where you have to confirm that you want to run the game and then after that it does nothing. Any suggestions or advice please?

Many thanks

I've been running vista *spit* for a while on a quad-core/8800gtx/n680sli setup and have not yet seen the end of random crashes and video reset loops and etc.
Generally, for games, go back to XP. Or go back to your last working drivers.

Which games specifically? I know some of the new Nvidia drivers for series 8 GPU's have issues with older games. Could this be the issue?

MS has just released a reliability update that is available for download (but not available from windows update yet) that may help with some of your problems An update is available that improves the compatibility and reliability of Windows Vista

There is also another fix which is supposed to address general performance issues (including memory management) on vista, which may also be of interest An update is available that improves the performance and reliability of Windows Vista

I got those when they were leaked, and installed them - betas - desperate as I was. Still crashing/looping. Now that they have been officially released I downloaded them and what do you know: they are the same!
I'll be back on XP soon, but good luck you brave vista fools :)

It's Football Manager 2007
BF2142
Medieval: Total War 2

Strange thing is that 2 of the games used to run fine on my Vista machine. I think it may be a graphics driver issue? If you can please pop onto:

and post any new ideas. Many thanks for support so far.
