I'm guessing you have to visit in the summer to see the aurora?

Best times to see it is from around mid November to march/early april.

That's when the nights is the longest and darkest, so best chance to see them.

But if you go really far north in the winter, what time of the day you pick wont matter because the sun never rise :)

You have 2 choices. You can keep QQing about being Danish not swedish like a big girl or

You can face your swedish heritage and be embraced by the forum

The choice is yours.

I'd rather be an outcast than Swedish..

FU :D
We have atleast 4 hours of sunlight up here in december/january :(

@Tilda:
You can get a ticket with norweigan air for about €40 to go from arlanda to luleå, that way you can experience the north aswell... but as others have said, this winter is cold as a mfker....

There are plenty of stuff to see up here but you probobly need a guide or you will just end up seeing snow and forests... or get eaten by a polar bear ;)

For your first trip, stay around uppsala/stockholm... plenty of stuff to see there aswell.

Was at a work do in Sweden couple of months back (Umea). 5-7 euros a pint. In Finland a couple of weeks ago on hols, cheapest pint by far was 3 euros, mostly it was 4-5 eu. Do the locals drink out at those prices or just get pissed on vodka and come out late?

Why the further north you go, the tax on booze gets higher? :(

Cus we're socialists. You can't really get drunk being out, atleast not on any decent places. HEAVY predrinking occurs.

Well you can get drunk but pre-drinks are rather essential in that scenario :p

4-5/pint is the usual, 3 is in cheaper venues and even less during happy hour at times.

Couple of places have 2e/pint/shot nights also, even 1e/pint.

Those are deadly though, in a sense that you guzzle it more then Paris Hilton guzzles...umm...juice :p

Our pints also are .5 litre instead of the, i think, standard UK .4 pint.

UK is 568ml i believe

i am shocked here in Finland to be served a "pint" that looks like half the glass is empty! why not just give me a smaller glass, then i wouldnt feel so cheated!

(frankly in most places in the UK, if they tried to serve a .4 pint there would be a riot)

In Norway it is between 8 - 10 Euros for a pint(for a normal brand). Stupiest tax system when it comes to Alchohol in the world. And the politicians keeps getting frustrated that we spend so much money to buy alchohol in Sweden.

Yeah, the inch or two of thin air in the glass didn't go unnoticed. I got the impression they were British pint glasses but filled up to either 400 or 500ml. Record price for a drink - 12 euros for a whiskey! Was strongly tempted to 'escape' to Estonia for a few days.

Ah ok.

The reason they do this is because it's a lot cleaner and spilling beer on yourself is not really a "fun thing to do" around here :p

It's still the half a litre, just without being silly with it.

Not to mention that it's maybe half an inch of air max in most places ;)

but i dont want to pay for air! and not spilling pint on way to table is an artform :p

(which admittedly i am not very good at, i take some big gulps before i attempt it, thus getting all the benefits of a full glass, while still enjoying an easy carrying experience!)

You're not, you're paying for half a litre of beer in a pint glass :p
