I have this problem where my comp freezes, and it's started doing it alot more lately, its not the newest comp in the world but its not a bad one either it should easily be able to play daoc. The thing is sometimes this little yellow exclamation mark pops up and it says ( translated from danish ) " Not enough virtual memory, and something about its increasing the size of the "side file" or something" anyway its done that alot.

I don't really understand whats wrong, i do get a few ad pop-ups sometimes but i scan my comp with "Ad-aware" and spybot so i kinda hoped that would take care of it.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!

-Best regards, Furnus

Post some more details...
What´s your PC specs, RAM, CPU, hd, gfx card, what OS are you using, are the latest Service Packs installed, does the freez up only happen during DAOC/games or also during normal operation? It sounds like there´s something wrong with your memory.
Try: Start, properties, system properties, advanced tab, then the first of the three options, then the second tab (advanced). I hope that´s correct, I just know the german terminology. Anyways, there you see how much virtual memory you assigend for your computer. Use the recommended size (if you don´t already have) and check whether there´s enough free room on your hd.

hope that helps

hey to follow up abit :D i tried changing the thing in the advanced tab so it now lets windows decide whats best, before it was on best appearance. I was also poking abit around in there and it says i have a side file space of 384 or something, and max is 7XX. I have 10XXmb DRR ram in my comp and bonedancer dude said i should have 3times as much space for the side file? I tried increasing it but i just went back to 7XX afterwards.

Comp Stats ( what i know how to check :p ):

Microsoft Windows XP
Home Edition
Version 2002
Service Pack 2

Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.40GHz
2.41 GHz, 1,00 GB RAM

And some Navida gfx card which i can spot the stats on.

side file = page file :)

make sure custom is sellected on virtual memory if you have 1GB ram select 800mb (ish) initial page file size and 1536 maximum size

that might help

Virtual memory is the devil, i've found it to be the main problems for bsods etc, if you've got sufficient physical memory to run whatever it is you are, then you're best bet is to turn it off

Virtual memory, aka page file should be 1.5 times ur Ram.

To much is just as bad as to little. If your page files is at 1.5xram and you still get errors drop some perf counters on disk I/O's and maybe run a mem test.

Also u might want to try moving the page file onto another volume or splitting at across volumes.
