it just isnt a platform a president can be elected on + changing the US constitution is quiet hard (requires a super majority of 3/4 of congress and 3/5 of the senates support)

Well, this to me is no different then any other news involving a person, a gun and another person.

All the same really. As in bad, but not life changing.

Ofcourse it owuld be better this didn't happen, but it does and there's really sh*t all to do to "eradicate" it. Sad fact or a way of modern life really.

Well, i think this is another case of propaganda, but can't be sure ofcourse.

I know that if I was an evil mastermind terrorist...i wouldn't attack military installations if i knew i would lose. Then again, blowing up schools wouldn't be on my Top Ten Things to Blow list.

Well.. a school is actually a really good target to blow up as a terrorist, easy access, easy way to hide a bomb in a briefcase or bag so nobody will notice and blowing up a school will cause loads of terror.
It's kinda hard(er) to get a bomb or any kind of explosion device near important person for the country anyway.

But to not completely go off-topic (ironic ) I bet they blame video games again or movies with violence in them as that's where all these people base their 'I am going to shoot any moving target at my school' from

This is a real shame, Will get blamed on video games the internet TV music and whatever else needs sensoring. Instead of the fact that billy bobs Dad had enough weapons laying about the house that his soon could take them a kill 33 people because a girl embaresed him.

As for the terorist acts i find it laughable that people moan about the coalition in Iraq and colateral damage where the people they want us to leave in charge see 30 people at a shopping mall as a better target than a military patrol.

Just after the London bombings there was a programme about terorist acts and about how they have never worked. Us in the UK are supposed to have such a great mentality just like the blitz where we say OK 30 dead on that train but the next day we are all back on it on the way back to work. I think if Osama did attack a brittish school all he would achieve is pissing off enough people to make the war in Iraq acceptable to most Engish again.

When will these people learn all you need to stop England dead in its tracks is a inch of snow!

From the comments I've read, a good number of Americans seem to be under the impression that these problems could be solved by loosening the restrictions on Concealed Carry Permits (CCPs). The argument goes that if a few students and teachers at VTech had been carrying concealed weapons then the shooter would have been killed before 32 innocent people could be killed.

I believe this shows how deeply ingrained the "Gun Culture" is in the US and how impossible it would be for any President to pass (or even support) tighter restrictions and remain in office. It's hard to fault the logic, I guess...if you know that everyone else has a gun, you need one to protect yourself.

I know gun crime is on the rise in the UK, but it seems to me that by making guns illegal in the UK, you restrict gun ownership to criminals. Most career criminals have very little interest in 'offing' random people. To be honest, provided you're not involved in gang violence or drug dealing, you're statistically very unlikely to get shot in the UK purely because the guy you get into a drunken fight with in the pub is unlikely to have a handgun down the front of his trousers. No matter how good your permit system is (and from what I can tell the US system isn't all that good) as long as civilians are allowed to carry guns legally, some of those guns will be licensed to the section of the population I like to refer to as the "Grade-A Headcase" demographic....

People with mental problems, poor impulse control and emotional instability should NOT be allowed to carry guns. If that means that no-one else can either, that would seem to me to be a fair trade.
