We had a football torunament at work the other month and one of the guys recorded it on his camera. However when we stuck it onto the computer the file size was huge.

Anyone got any ideas of the best software to be able to compress it and then convert it to a DvD format?

Cheers :)

Windows movie maker is free and installed on most XP machines, just drag in the video clip then save it as a WMV file, it will then ask you how big you want the file to be (and will adjust the quality accordingly)

Otherwise your into some complex ground with Virtuabdub and codecs (or maybe just use Nero mmmm)

you tried sony vegas? its fairly easy to do once you get going. here are a couple of guides.

(aimed at daoc movies but much the same i guess)

they should provide you with the info you need.

I found with windows movie maker i was far to restricted in what i could do, you cant get away from the codecs issue though. have a go with either DivX or Xvid. on vegas it will take a while to encode (depends on your comp) so do a couple of 20 seconds testers, work out the overall file size and see which qual you think is best.

I've used something called "Winavi Converter" in the past. Converts pretty much anything to either AVI or DVD. You can specify that you want to fit a DVD disk and it will figure the rest out for itself.

the GF and I are using Doze movie maker to make a little movie for a friend's wedding. tbh it does what it's supposed to do......but there are loads of things that I really hate about it that could have been done soooooo much better :(
