Well, me and a few of my friends will start playing Vanguard soon, or at least try out the trial, if there will be one. Nothing serious, just something to waste my precious spare time, whic i wouldn´t want to waste in any other way ;P

Anyways, anyone else thinking of giving this game a try? If so, i thought it would be fun to maybe get together on TS, and play some.

or, are you die hard fans of DaoC and persisting with playing Warhammer Online? Whic in my opinion, looks strikingly like WoW (thou it most certainly won´t play the same) but whatever.

Playing on Gelenia at the moment. It's pretty much Horizon 2 so far.
Now I'm just waiting for that 8800gtx to arrive so I can enter the crafterarea without looking at my feet with everything set to lowest :D

though lowest graphics settings look quite familiar, bit like daoc <cough>

Crafting is great, once you get the hang on it how it actually works, and heard the same of diplomacy, but haven't tried that yet.

well, the game isn't optimized for performance, it's buggy (not horrible) and pretty much Beta status. It's definitly not aimed at WoW Players, but rather at those die-hard-masochist-of-doom. Leveling is slow, crafting is slow. The community appears to be pretty good and mature so far.

And if anyone wants a 10 day trial key, gimme a pm.

I wouldn´t want it any other way than slow and painful :) Anyways, how is it? More immersive than DaoC, how is the fight system etc ? Anything like Everquest 2, as i kind of liked Eq2.

Don't know about EQ2, but the basics in Vanguard are quite similiar to DAoC, as in auto attack, styles and reactionaries. Though, the way in which you combine styles can result in different effects, like in hitting a mob twice in succession with an "ice" style will freeze the mob for a short duration.
Just level 10 so far, but I feel right at home with the combat system :)

Crafting is ... a pain when you come from easy mode crafting like WoW or DAoC.

First you got to choose your materials and tools carefully, then you need to prepare the stuff. Think of it like this, you can choose to split some wood with an axe (fast, quality loss), use a big saw (not as fast, no quality loss) or cut what you want from it with a knife (takes ages, but quality gain). Next is (usually) polishing and details, same choices again, fast progression or better quality.
Problem is, you only got a limited amount of Action Points. If those run out during the crafting, you cannot finish the product.
Then there's various "free choice" components you can choose from, some will help with complications, like mangled tools (repair tools -> fix it!), others might add something to the finished product.

So you got to figure out how to get the the best quality without running out of APs to finish the thing, but once you got the skills, it's quite easy to get decent quality.

Crafting is a game of it's own :)

After level 10 you really feel a hit in the speed of levelling, but if you are able to get a decent group (I'm not finding these hard to find, regardless of being on a medium populated Team PvP server) then you'll level a lot faster than soloing quests/grinding.

As for the bugs, there's quite a few annoyings bugs, for example at times your group will constantly disband, everyone in the group relogging fixes it though, and it doesn't happen that often. I expect the major bugs will be fixed over the next couple of weeks, then there really isn't all that many bugs, the people who've came to name the game Vanguard: Saga of Bugs, really need their heads checked, as every MMO has it's fair share of bugs, and Vanguard will have no more than them after the main bugs are ironed out, there's about 7 of them. The game is still playable.

So far, as a Monk, the combat system is excellent, timing is everything at the moment, and I have a decent selection of styles/misc utility. Monks really shine in PvE, solo or grouped. As for PvP, Monks lack the utility to 1v1 properly (we either die, or our opponent easily outruns us, hopefully the CC styles Monk obtains at higher level will change this ;p), again though the class, when grouped, really shines in PvP with their great DPS, I can even out DPS the currently-overpowered Rangers/Clerics (yes, clerics, think pre-nerf smite clerics of DAoC).

Oh and FYI, 10x10 Day Trial Keys are bundled with a purchase of the Collector's Edition of Vanguard, so it shouldn't be too hard to find people willing to give you a key. I got the normal edition, though :]

Drop me a pm if you play on my server :p

So there are PvP servers and regular ones? If so, whic areas is the PvP taking place? Specific ones, or like the DaoC pvp server..

PvE - Self explanatory

PvP - Free For All PvP, like Camlann of DAoC

Team PvP - Comparable to Midgard, Hibernia & Albion, except there's no specific PvP zones, you can PvP anywhere and you can also group up with the opposing faction(s) for pve.

Team PvP puzzles me a bit. If there aren´t any specific PvP zones, how can i then group up with a enemy of my faction? Lets say were a group from different factions Pveíng, can we get steamrolled anytime anywhere ?

Yeh, own faction can't attack their own faction though, and at the moment on Team PvP there isn't really much pvp when you're out questing/levelling.

http://vanguard.tentonhammer.com/ has the answer to most of the questions you're most likely to ask :)

So in Team pvp. We have access to every area in the game, and can get steamrolled everywhere by the opposing faction ?

I played quite a bit in the beta and loved it... my four year old computer however did not :(
I beleve the release was rushed tho, another month or even two of beta would iron out all of the most annoying bugs (the group bug beeing worst IMO).

that sounds cool actually. I prefere not having any "closed" zones in mmo's. I enjoyed the Lineage2 pvp just as much as the Daoc pvp.

other then that the game sounds interessting. but not interessting enough for me to pause daoc....yet :)

Sigil is out of money, it was either to release it now, or never afaik. But it gets better every day.

As far as I know, yes. "Steamrolled" is not a term that comes to mind when playing Vanguard at all, though.

Well, if im out exping. Theoretically, i could get killed by anyone from the other faction. Whic doesn´t sound that good to me... but Pve only server doesn´t please me either :(

Always some high lvl twat that runs around killing lowbies...

Updating aswell, like 5 - 6 hours left. So it´ll be finished over night. Just wondering whic server i´ll choose. Probably the EU ones, as they´ll be more concentration of players.

Its actually an 18gig instal from the retail DvDs

Enjoying the game, could use a PC upgrade tho tbh, the crafting is great, and diplomacy is a very nice feature too,

not sure i will stick with it, just a fill in really until something better comes along, i aint holding my breath for warhammer either, only future MMO that has caught my eye is Stargate Worlds.

Loving this at the moment. Currently playing on Gelenia (EU) as a Dark Knight as Agel. Although I am mainly crafting (Armoursmith) as I need new mats I go and do a few more quests and catch up with what I can craft.

As has been stated a few times, the devs are patching nearly daily and there is actually ingame support! (they even have a sense of humour!!)
