I am the owner of a K reg cavalier 1.6 expression, is in rather good condition aside from a slight problem with the central locking on the passenger side (easily fixed just can't be arsed), brand new water pump, cam belt and exhaust, 87,000 miles on the clock, alloy wheels, power steering, and I'll throw in a years tax and test.

seriously how much is it worth do you think?

The reason I ask is I'm hoping to sell private, and I have a figure in my head of how much I think its worth but when I asked a fellow mechanic the other day how much he thought it was worth after looking at it he claimed it was worth just under what I paid for it a year ago which is twice as much as Im expecting it to be.

It all depends on how lucky you are really, I would say between £1000-£1500, it would be a good first time car I guess.

Stick it up for sale at around £1500 ono, I'd say. I would have been up for maybe taking it off you, however insurance is an issue, given that it's a 1.6 and I'm 18. :/

No, it's true - while they have a slightly poor rep (for some reason), they generally do make very good, sturdy cars that perform well and consistently. Apart from Novas. :)

Vauxhall beats the shit out of ford anyday.

so why does just about every single motoring journalist rate the Fiesta as the best supermini, the Focus as the best hatchback, and the Mondeo as the best "repmobile"? I take it you mean "anyday without a y in it"

and you believe everything a motoring journalist says? Having worked on and driven both ford and vauxhall, I much prefer vauxhall, only the layout of the engine compartment annoys me but then some ford models are just as bad and there are far worse cases in other makes. Motoring journalists review cars for spoiled rich boys who like to play not for people like you and me who just want a nice looking cheap reliable car to go to work in they usually judge a car on its looks, how many numbers and letters it has in its name, how many accesories it has and how much it makes their fillings rattle when they put their foot down. What they should consider more than they do is safety, (something ford are not well known for) reliability, (again fords are shit for it) and you get the picture.....

Anyway do you remember Ed Norton's job in fight club at the begining, that was based on a court case against ford after they decided that legal bills would be cheaper than repairing the lethaly dangerous fuel hoses in one of the American ford models they were mass producing at the time. One of the reasons I refuse to drive a ford.

General Motors has the worst safety record of any major car manufacturer in the world. And that's a fact.

General motors aren't vauxhall, they're responsible for vauxhall and many others so that hardly counts does it, ford is only one company. Thats like saying Australia has more murder cases that Britain.
