ValeWalker, usefull to rvr groups?

Do these guys have a niche?

Would you invite a valewalker for peeling (insta snare + backstun), and for assisting the main tank (insta snare + posissionals that --> procs) ??
Or would you rather have another class fill that spot?

Anyhow, Im just wondering... Pondering the thought of starting one myselves, and I dont want to end up as some halfbaked class that cant get into rvr groups.

I didn't have a hard time getting groups in PvE, but now as lvl 50 it's kinda hard :>
imo only start a VW if you're in a RvR guild, cos random grps kinda suck anyhow, and you're certain to get into the gg as tank.

all in all VW's are a fun class to play, but it could use determination (like savages have ) make sure you get purge asap ;>

I think... if there is a choice for a tank between hero and VW, the hero will get picked 99% of the time. If no heroes are free, then a VW might get picked

If I ever had to decide between him and any RR7 Hero, I'd take Psy

Unless you intend joining a strong rvr guild* then this is the situation you will find yourself in. VW's dont bring anything amazing to a group, just dmg output much like hero/bm/ns/ranger/champ. Compared to heros they are easier to kill and dont have that shield stuff that makes heros just a bit better than their competition.

*I know for a fact that may of the 'rvr guilds' on this server will laugh at your VW and say 'soz no VW's we dont like cloth wearing tanks'...

Roll a nice hero imo.

only really hero that pwns is the defensive one with shield 50 that guards a supportclass.

if you want a good dmg class that melees, take a BM.

Well I cant realy roll a hero as I dont have any chars atm and no money. So cant realy afford armour, let alone scale armour. I will probably find something with cloth to play. Hmmm, I doubt the VW can be that bad tho, they have better growthrates on their styles then heros/bms/whatever in hib.

I love my VW.. and i think its a great class... takes lower dmg then all other hib tanks ( got lower hp too tho ) and overall great defence.... they hit hard... can insta snare/interupt.... can insta dot/interupt... and easy nuke for 250-300dmg with lifetap on good resists ( uber when rooted or albs use BoF )... also love DotV uber to have a RA that can help the whole grp etc
Very uber class imo..

The only bad thing..as many already said... they got no tank RA's wich is a REALLY big nerf... but well.. if they had they would be way too overpowered imo

Tho the most funny experience was some months ago on a german server, been lvling a mid char in uppland and got jumped by a ranger (or rather 1shot)

Few secs after that I saw a Warrior from one of the bigger guilds coming towards me and he approached the Ranger who hadn't stealthed again yet as he shot my grpmates afterwards

Anyways I watched the fight w/o being able to see the rangers name or RR, only saw the name of the warrior. Anyways the Warrior fooked up and got killed even tho he IPed, so I thought it could be interesting to know the RR of the archer and I pmed the warrior. Lemme sum up the replies:

"I couldn't see the RR name properly, it went all too fast"
"I think he was RR4, name was something like Tarna I think"
"Elf is Albion, right?"
"I have never lost against an archer, this must have been a cheat!"

I hope that in the RA review, determination will be toned down somewhat (not broken tho) to affect some melee vs. every1-else balance in the game again, in which case VW's could become very desired in groups.

Not telling cause I dont wanna perputate any l33t myths or annoy any guilds. But a friend recently tried to join a couple and was told your X can join nps but we dont take VW's...

A lot of em do have VW's, but many of those where already mates / in those guilds before they leveld their VW. Basically other characters have better group abilites and people know that, one or two VW's are nice but an rvr guild with too many will be weaker and I guess thats what those guilds are afraid of.

The difference from 42->50 shield isnt that great, a hybrid can play the defensive roll well if they try they just lack some 1h dmg while defending. Personally I like the dmg from CS / LW, quite happy to duel equivalent rank BMs

Heros benefit from cheap RA's. When you consider that a rr5 hero will have covered all the basics like det 3/4, IP, purge, Aom2+,Mpain 2 and more, and have Moose to use in combination with IP then the hero wins over equivalent rank BM.

Im not saying BM's are crap or anything, both have their rolls, but with one space in a group and no BM/Hero then most groups would rather fill with a shield hero i suspect.

This is pretty much it, the benefits of a VW aren't obvious on paper, if people can't see it straight away then they simply disregard them.

So we don't have tank ra's, well I don't usually get mezzed playing my vw, I hang at the back of the grp and break off when albs/mids are spotted, I dot one healer, I nuke another (killed a lvl 50 healer in 4 nukes before), quite often the healer has to waste instas before mezz breaks on his tanks, this is usually a good thing!
Especially if other casters are nuking the same target, it's so easy to take out the support classes before our tanks get to them.
Usually once the enemy tanks can move one or two charge me cos I have cloth and was casting some nasteh spells, can be a big shock when I evade the majority of attacks and give them a good kicking

Ofc it's not always like this, but then what class/guild doesn't get owned silly from time to time, I play for fun and not simply to win, I and the people in AoP are good players, maybe not the best of the best (sir!) but then we aren't trying to be and I think we accomadate non standard setups better because of it, like IG we don't usually run with casters, simply cos there are too few who are about when we rvr.

I would like to play my VW more often in rvr, I normally opt to play my BM though and the sole reason for that is prevent flight, not cheap purge and determination, PF makes a big difference in FGvsFG battles and since we have 3 BM's with it would be a shame not to take advantage of it

Lack of determination and only slash damage available is pretty much the only bad things about valewalkers ;p We have some nice styles and utils. For a gank group i reckon you should do a blademaster, those are very nice

That side chain really smokes any class out there. Still all hybrids suffer a bit atm.
