V for Vendetta - is this any good?

Wondering whether to rent it out for thursday when I have a day off.

I liked the trailer & Natalie Portman is in it which is good shit!

it's ok, its a bit weird..if you like comicbook-esk style films you should give it a whirl.

agreed to what most ppl have said - if you like Marvel comics and that kind of thing then watch it - i have a copy and have just watched it again thx to your post. best film with natalie portman in though is Leon by far, great acting, etc. - can buy it for about 4 quid these days which is probably what it costs to rent a dvd

I read the original graphic novel years ago and loved it. If I recall correctly, the film is faithful in all the important respects and has nice cameos from some well known British luvvies.

The only problem I felt is that the story is very British (with strong shades of Orwell's 1984) and that is a style that has never sat comfortably with the Hollywood big budget approach as one of the essences of 'British' is low key and understated, often with a touch of quiet class - the complete antithesis of everything that is Hollywood. That said, the I thought the film works reasonably well. I enjoyed it and have it in my collection. I don't think the film is quite 'grubby' enough in its look but I'm glad the filmmakers understood the importance of not revealing V's face (unlike the makers of Judge Dredd mutter mumble mumble mutter) and kept faith with the source material.
Yes, its a bit overblown in places but that is in keeping with character of V, who is himself grandiose and pretentious while remaining mysterious.

The story would have better suited a TV series, but then so would many graphic novels or books (Dune, Akira, to name but two).

ohw, don't care that much for manga myself, so can't comment on Akira, but indeed, Dune.... liked the movie, but prefer the miniseries of John Harrison

I liked V for Vendetta alot, seen it 7 times so far and well, I like the character V's monolouges and dialouges the most tbh, those are what makes the movie good in my eyes.

well bugzy tbh its not going to like hurt you if you do watch it and dont like it lol personally i loved the film i was well impressed (really wanted to try that egg toast that he made too lol).

Totally agree natalie portman rocks she was great in leon ( :worthy: ) and great in this, i thought the film deserved a hell of a lot more credit than it got but i think (could be wrong) it coincided with the 7/7 bombings so was hushed up a bit, such a shame because it really is a very cool movie.



Gamah btw have you read MC's new book "Next"? thats really cool i love his books i read prey in one sitting couldnt put the bastard down lol.

I dunno, I kinda enjoyed the book but it went a bit fooking too far at the end (if a book like that can go too far anyway?)

Not a huge love of Crichton though even though I have read several of his books - I tend to pick em up, blast through them, put them down and think why did I not buy something else...

Greg Iles - Dark Matter - now thats a far better book than Prey - not directly same subject but ballpark'ish.. Might be called something different in the UK now though I seem to remember.

Fave author atm though is between Harlen Coben and John Connolly - I would recommend their books to anyone who likes reading tbh... (though if you like dressing up as a wizard and shit then mebbe stick with ya fantasy books)

I think the thing about Crichton is I am not keen on his writing style, I like his stories but I just don't like the way he tells em, kinda wish he gave someone else the story who knew how to put it in writing better..
