Yo, im at uni in halls with a uber connection plugged into my wee laptop, but i cant use it to its full potential to DL stuff from kazaaa etc..

Just wondering if theres a work around or cheat u can use to letting you thru the firewall, or software to the same end.

a Misson that wont end I would say.

getting trough the university firewalls is more less impossible. and if u do u prolly get banned or something for it.

thats all info I can give. maybe someone better at it than me can help u out. but I doubt it

Chimy is right. You can browse the web and download innocent junk at blistering speeds but you can't use P2P software properly at all. Totally gay but that is the way the University likes to keep it for some reason.

Trying to sneak your way around it isn't recommended as they will more than likely catch you ... and ban you ... for ever. :)

Correct about the banning part.

Don't agree with you that the University doing this is 'totally gay', if you let people run P2P unchecked on your network, you'll end up with bugger all bandwidth for anybody else to do anything.

well if u got a FAST and reliable shell outside the uni u could set up some kind of "tunneling" to your own "firewall" and tunnel the kazaa traffic from shell - you - shell.

your IP to kazaa is the shell providers IP.

its theoretically doable, but trust me they will notice the increase in traffic in notime and shut u down.
Also finding a shell for it is also quite hard.

not to mention the fact that most stuff you get on Kazaa is illegal and that if RIAA (or whereever your from) catches you they´re gonna bill the uni AND you... and then the uni is ognna bill you too

tunneling and breaking firewalls would definetly not be a good thing to do.

If your uni allows telnet/ssh through the firewall - then your best bet is to buy a shell account somewhere, use that for your downloading of whatever - then simply retrieve the files back to uni using FTP or WWW protocols which will be allowed through.

no one EVER gets caught ffs, and its VERY easy to set up tunneling, you just use a socks 5 proxy, can install it on any linux box, thing is it needs to have a phat connection, like 100mbit to be as good as i want it , which will never happen unless some ISP sysad decided to befriend me :D

dc/dc++ has a passive mode that works through firewalls. unless the hub port is blocked.
