Misc USB port as CD-Rom?

The CD-Rom on my Xbox sounds like a jet taking off at full bore and it's getting annoying. So I had a thought and I'm wondering if it's even possible. Use a USB port, something like a front panel thing to Emulate a CD-Rom, rip game discs to a Flash Drive and play them from that.

Anyone know if it would work?

Similar works with the Wii but you have to hack it. If it is possible you would be looking at playing ISO files from a hard drive I think. A quick Google suggests it is possible, I will not post links as I am not sure they are allowed.
