USB mouse

Hi, I took the plunge today and bought an intellimouse optical (the normal size one w/ side buttons) and am very impressed One thing though when I launch an application the mouse pointer freezes for .5 sec and then returns to normal. Is this like when winamp used to 'skip' until I turned the priority up can this be done with USB?

ps i may try the ps2 adaptor, does this help?
