It looks like a really good movie..but...we need more non english films to win, quickly followed by non english film winning.

Its easy to roll your eyes and thats all that is.
Iys just a dig at the luvvies and not 'racist orange man bad'.

This is why he's winning.

I've never seen this before.

I've seen stuff about Black people not being represented, but nothing about foreign films not winning anything.

I think you're mixing up your prejudices.

Its all a bit of a contrived cockup actually.

Bong Joon Ho’s crossover hit, Parasite, received Oscar nominations for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Editing, and Best Production on Monday, but not Best Foreign Language Film. It wasn’t a snub, but rather an Academy title change that many casual Oscar watchers may have missed: Parasite will compete for Best International Feature Film, the category formerly known as Best Foreign Language Film. That reclassification was announced last year.

“We have noted that the reference to ‘Foreign’ is outdated within the global filmmaking community,” International Feature Film Committee co-chairs, Larry Karaszewski and Diane Weyermann, said in a joint statement released by the Academy in April 2019. “We believe that International Feature Film better represents this category, and promotes a positive and inclusive view of filmmaking, and the art of film as a universal experience.”

Yet despite the stated push for inclusion, shifting the category’s name was something literally done in name only: the rules for Best International Feature Film match those established for Best Foreign Language Film, meaning the film’s language is key in determining its eligibility for a nomination, not its country of origin. As a result, international films predominantly in English are disqualified from the category — a previously established way to keep English-language movies produced by England or Canada or Australia from competing for a foreign-language Oscar.

This wouldn’t have been a problem except for the fact that it obviously was: In November, the Nigerian film Lionheart was barred from competing for the Best International Feature Film Oscar because its characters speak English, which happens to be the official language of Nigeria. (As Lionheart director Genevieve Nnaji wrote on Twitter at the time, “We did not choose who colonized us. As ever, this film and many like it, is proudly Nigerian.”)

Trump's got plenty of previous for racism and he regularly whips up his malleable fans into a frenzy at his rallies. Are you *seriously* suggesting he was trying to make a thought-provoking point about the quality of international film-making? Or was it more along the lines of "prestigious American awards show gives the top honour to a non-American film. SAD."?

Ffs. How desperate are you to leap to his defence?

No he was playing to the crowd.

This has served him well, because everytime time he gets shit for it, another wavering Trump supporter digs in.

I still think he’ll win if Sanders gets the nomination.

I disagree.

These are the kind of people that will pick small s socialism over the Liberal Elite or Donald Trump I think.

People don't want the perfectly rehearsed political class of the likes of Biden.

We're going to be China's bitch then since we're going to give involuntarily all our data to China via the 5G network as well as give away large lucrative contracts like HS2 to China.

Everyone is, it's all the fault of the tech companies like Apple that that handed them the technology for a relatively short term gains on production costs. They created their competition. They also knew it was coming as the contracts back then were about technology transfers. The west has been doing this in China for last 30 years. they started out in learn mode and now they directly compete. The Wests answer is to tout privacy and security concerns. We will lose that battle eventually as we need their skills to roll out tech like 5G quickly.

The UK's approach is fine, restricted China's input to the non connected elements, 5G Antenna Arrays etc. Don't get the fuss tbh.

Because they're China and they're super evil in comparison to the angels of private business like Google, they sell our data to the Chinese anyway so what's the difference?

The Chinese could remind us that they bought entire digital telephone networks off us in the 80s.
