Hail i seek to upgrade my pc. i wanna get a huge boost in performance compared to what i get now, ill spend around £ 700-800 if i really need to.

Currently using

2400amd (2.0?)
512 ddr
geforce 4 ti4600 128mb
windows xp
asus deluxe motherboard with dual ram processing.

considering

ati radeon 9800 pro 128mb
1 gig ddr ram (definate upgrade)

i hate amd processors they suck imo, i wish i went intel, but i dont think changing motherboard just to get an intel processor is a cost wise idea.

i am considering a new monitor to.. its a really old 17 inch, picture is getting blury. so monitor suggestions would rok to ;p

i usualy buy my stuff from http://scan.co.uk and i build/upgrade all my own stuff.

thanks.

First of all my pc:

P4 2.8 Ghz HT
1 Gb Ram
Radeon 9700

My old pc:
Tbird 900
384 Mb Ram
Geforce 2

The impact was huge when I started playing daoc again. The smoothness of it all astounded me. First of all when I upgraded from 256 to 384 Mb on old it already helped a lot. So getting that 1 Gb ram is a must imo. Then secondly, most videocards these days got a processor of their own, saves cpu time and therefore good. What is even better is to get a card that supports directx 9. I'm not sure if GF4 MX has that but it wouldn't hurt getting a Radeon 9600 Pro or the XL version (or 9800 if yah got the cash, since 9700 aren't being made anymore I heared). Then the processor. While AMD has been quite good I think it's performance has staggered again (we need something new again) and therefore the new P4s are a bit better atm. But as you said it takes a new mobo as well if yah just upgrading and then it's almost a new pc again anyway so might as well make a 2nd pc.

But the Ram and a directx 9 supported videocard will help a lot in this game.

Since I bought this new pc I'm still using my old 19" Iiyama monitor but am gonna buy it's brother 19" for my old pc for around 300 euro's (also flat screen CRT). Monitors I don't know if it really matters that much, it just projects the videocard info. But if yah getting a new videocard capable of doing games easy on 1600x1200 I would surely take a 19".

That's my input so far ;) All I can say is I love my new PC :)
