How is crap like this

or even this

social?

It isn't.

There are plenty of funny threads with good banter that don't get ruined by some gobby twat bitching away from behind the safety of his pc screen.

You're an intelligent guy - try not jumping on the "Omg FH mods sux!" bandwagon. The CoC is only asking people to engage their brains before typing.

only reason to read fh is such threads imo, they have such comedy value.

scroll to bottom and read the compact version if you cant be arsed to read the same drivle AGAIN! save yourself from wasting 30seconds.

if people didnt whine or grats, i honestly dont know what people would post on an RvR forum?

monday 4th: "nice work today hibs" <-- boring.

wednesday 6th: "Nice 1 Albs good tower defence" <-- boring

Friday 8th: "Stop zerging at 2am middies" :LOCKED:

last i looked, this forum was crap, because the moderation level is set to extreme, it's just the odd 1 or 2 mods who need a little more power in their lives so they come home from "work" and close random threads that THEY see as unfit for a certain forum, all to save bandwidth or something !

infact .. i dont know why anyone posts any threads any more, every single thread has been done to death and said 100 times over by everyone, i know for 1 i often realise myself reposting the same crap over and over, just for different threads! infact, i'm going to copy and paste all this into notepad, and i bet ill use it again within the next 2 weeks.

compact version: theres nothing to post about. its been done, and if it hasnt, it would just get closed by a mod anyway

Last time I looked it was shit because every other thread was some variation on "Omg albs sux j00 took our keeps!", "Mids sux because they don't fight!" or "<insert any name you like> is an adding zerger!", with various muppets hurling insults from behind their pcs.

Basically it seems that the ones complaining about the modding are the ones who like to sit there and bitch at people knowing there are no consequences. Now that they do have to engage their brains before posting and can't get away with the same old shit it's funny to see their reaction.

Only for a select minority - and let's face it, those posts are never constructive and almost always end up as a l33t kidz bitch session.

Scroll through the first 3-4 pages of threads in RvR-section and find me 5 that you find constructive. Gratsthreads excluded if you for some reason think they would fit in.

Edit: That has to do with rvr, this thread for example does not count even if its in rvr-section, since it has nothing to do with rvr.

If you read the CoC the mods are perfectly within their rights to lock pretty much anything and everything. Some modding is definatly needed, I don't want to read, irl death threats, non-work safe content or see URLs to cheat sites.

The thing is, modding on this forum has become rather heavy handed - since we can't change this perhaps the community might wish to post elsewhere.

One possibility would be vn, I'm sure they'd make some euro forums if there was demand (they used to have them, but at the time BW was the place to be), another possibility would be prydwen.net but I have no idea what the modding is like there.

All of the above were perfectly fine threads that had some good discussion...the only problem comes when people just start chucking out mindless insults because they can do it without consequences (being safely tucked away behind there pcs.). Only thing that the new CoC changes is getting rid of crap like that - the good discussions won't be affected.

The problem with "Grats Threads" is that they put a shade on other "real" threads - You could say they get debumped away. We could have this thread, that has some interesting discussion in it, could be a "how to improve daoc" or summin. People post away for several days and all of a sudden the debate stop for some time, cuz most of the F5 posting ppl ran out of ideas. Then we got this guy, lets call him Mr. Jimmy. Mr Jimmy checks out the daoc forum ~2 times a week and after a few days, when he sees this thread he posts his revolutionary idea of how to improve daoc. People are stunned!!, and the discussion keeps on going. Now thats a nice forum!

In a sick sick world(FH), Mr. Jimmy would never have seen this thread because there would be so much rubbish(grats and FAO threads) everywhere that the thread got debumped onto page 73 in matter of seconds.

In short, grats threads and fao threads sux. Bring on the ban machine(flim) when those threads appear KTHX

disagree tbh, i complain about the modding, and i dont whine about anyones actions via thread, the only thing i complain about is the restrictions on what threads can be posted and which can't.

the 1's complaining about the modding are the ones who actually want to discuss something and are not allowed because a mod doesnt like it. aggressive discussion is still discussion, the way a person expresses disgust should allow leeway (sp? *shrug*) for freedom of speech, a good mod (imo) closes it once it gets personal, other than that, i honestly dont see the problem allowing a thread to run especially as i said before .. it's all been said anyway, close it straight away or dont close it at all.

you can't expect people to not complain about the modding, when sometimes they lock whine threads and sometimes they dont. if you're going to close whine threads, close them all. for example there was a stage when any threads complaining about the alb zerg would get closed, but any whine about enchanters would be left to grow .. reason? no reason given. but then again it was usually closed by a mod from albion .. *cough*?

Think that was about the same 5 as I found, problem is, its 5 threads in around a weeks time, thats worth anything. Less than 1 or around 1 thread/day would be a pretty quiet forum. Also, how many of these were locked because of whatever reason? I may be wrong but I think 2 or 3. If those new rules are gonna be followed, at least mods has to delete bad posts instead of locking the few allowed threads there are at the first sight of flaming.

forgot to add pr0n pics and chat! that should get locked also, i love pr0n but there are limits on what should be placed in a thread

I would say most of modding that's done is pretty fair, with only occasional instances of over-modding. I'm all for freedom of speech, what I'm against is when people start acting like dickheads safe in the knowledge there are no consequences. I just think many (not all of course) of the comments being made about the modding at the moment are an over-reaction, often by those who are well known for just slinging crap from the safety of behind their pcs. Those people aren't interested in discussion, all they want to do is act like a nob with impunity. I really don't see anything in the new CoC that prevents good discussion or banter. People just have to use common sense.

Bottom line is...I guess we'll just disagree on this ;)

It's hardly an issue of "freedom of speech"; like Thorarin and Flimgoblin said, it's not as if you can go and spraypaint someone's house with your opinions and claim freedom of speech.

I actually disagree with you there. Just look at the forum now, and 90% of threads are grats threads, anything remotely contentious gets locked/deleted.

Lalala all's fine with the world, lalala.

Don't blame the mods though, just go elsewhere.

It´s actually rather funny that the god old "freedom of speech" stereotype is such a hatched and protected feature, while a whopping percentage of all posts consist of quotes like "stfu" and "die irl" and "go away noob" and "and you are?" and "you´re a retard"; all of which trying to eliminate, limit or undermine the opponents freedom of speech.
The thing that many people here obviously fail to see is, that this forum is property of the FH staff. It´s their house and their rules. Nobody is keeping you from standing on an orange box in your local park and express your points of view. No cop will show up and beat you up. THAT´s freedom of speech. The right to trashtalk on a forum isn´t. If someone´s visiting your house and doesn´t behaive, it´s YOUR right to kick him out. And you certainly wouldn´t accept him sitting in your living room, claiming his "freedom of speech".
