They are backing a scheme called Code Madeleine in which it gives guidelines and steps for parents that have had their child abducted.

If only they had of used the step of not leaving your 3 children in a hotel room alone, while you were out getting langers I doubt they would be backing the scheme at all.

@ Tris, that shirt picture is a joke,, it does look like a player unveiling at a football club.

Right and you need almost 3 million at last count to produce a set of common sense instructions...

who the fuck said we are blaming the kid?

i simply couldnt care less that shes kidnapped. no one here has said "thast fucking kid, i cant believe she got kidnapped the selfish little bastard" have they? or you reading another thread somewhere else?

i really do not care. do you care that my grandma had cancer? i doubt it, why should i care if this kid is missing?

and look at the picture, its like a fucking photo shoot for a football signing.

Nobody here is denying that the parents are to blame for all the media shit, and treating this as a publicity stunt. 90% of the people here dislike the parents. We know they're parading around being dicks.

But LOL at people like you and Overdriven. Nobody's telling you to do anything . You're sat at home all comfy and whatever. I just think it's pretty funny that you can't even feel sorry for the kid. As you so coolly put it. You just don't care.

P.S. "The media made me think it" is possibly the most pathetic excuse i've ever heard Overdriven.

Some of you have no compassion and judge so easily. I believe that is easier translated to 'ignorant fucks.' :)

You hurt my feelings, and most probably didn't understand what I meant.. So I'll try and make it so you'll understand it.

1) I don't care, because of the media attention (Granted, me being stupidly pissed off with my first comment didn't help). I couldn't give two shits about what the media says about this situtation. IF she is dead, then R.I.P - Another innocent person dead. Oh well. *Adds to list* It sounds cold, but.. So what? I don't know the family. I don't know if they were good parents etc.. If it was somebody close to me then.. I wouldn't be all comfy. :)

I just think it's pretty funny that you can't even feel sorry for the kid. As you so coolly put it. You just don't care.

As said before.. If my sister were to die, would you care? No.. Then that's a stupid argument :)

It's not my fault some people are too stupid to be parents. I for one wouldn't make the same mistakes as they did. I'd keep an eye on my kids, wouldn't leave them in a room in a foregin country at all.

Oh well..

PS:
Tis little Madeline thing isn't important to me at all.. PEOPLE LIKE ME (FO) actually prefer REAL WORLD issues.

Grrr.. Missed the edit timer:

In regards to "Sitting on my ass" - What exactly are you doing to help her? Other than being Mr.E-Hero? I'm sure you're donating to the fund, soaking up everything the media says. WHY? Why not to the people who actually die daily? Why not to the people in places like Africa who die of starvation? Because they don't get enough coverage? Because "They've got people to cover that" already? Please answer why... What's special about this kid?

I think it's fairly safe to say that given the choice she was
(a) Alive and well
(b) Raped and left in a gutter

almost everyone here would select option A!

Just because people don't care doesn't mean that they want option B to be true.

There's innocent kids that die every single day. I simply don't feel anything special about this one because the media have hyped it beyond all stupidity.

The parents profiting from it is utterly sick. All it does is give the impression that if you don't care properly for your children you'll be given all expense trips around the world. Going to the States and visits to the Pope.. That's not looking for your kid now is it!
As has been pointed out the money spent flying these 2 idiots about could of been spent saving the lives of hundreds of children who's parents actually deserved to have them!

I think it's tragic the kid died down to the stupidity of the parents. Whats the first thing you would think of doing if you had a 5 year old and 2 babies. Not exactly leave them in a room on their own while you go to the pub. I'm pretty sure they didn't intend for this to happen but there are reasons why you don't leave them alone.

The amount of coverage for this story is sick. I know it's old news and people have bought it up here already but there are much more needy causes for the money rather then let the parents of one child who they lost through their own stupidity, letting them go on their own holiday and probably setting them up for life.

The online store and such is sick. It's not a charity, it's going right into their pockets and they're milking the death of their own child. Disgusting.

she aint dead.. or at least.. there's no proof of it..

but whats been annoying last 2 days is.. the police have searched robert murats home AGAIN. why?

reminds me of that scene in life of brian... WE FOUND THIS SPOON SIR!!

i very much doubt he has anything to do with it, its just too bleeding obvious.

as for the earlier posts about the sighting in belgium.. she is very distinctive due to her right eye, and sadly.. belgium does have a track record for this kind of thing..

yes the media gone nuts, as have the parents. sure its fine to keep the search in public eye, but asking the pope for prayers? pope is gonna ask the same god who allowed their daughter to be abducted for help? all wrong.

but then whats right in this crazy world. not a lot.

Jesus people.

What if it was your kid?

Im damn sure if it was my kid I would keep searching and searching until I die.

twats ulot are who dont give a shit. This would be totally different if you were in their shoes.

Amphrax/Arauddry

ofc it would be. and i bet my right arm that the parents of that kid (if she never got kidnapped in the first place, now they probably have a tad more perception) would care just as much about that as we are now.

i'm not saying its not horrible that she's gone and all that.

that donation btw, would be nice if it were used as a reward for the person that made the final tip that got her recovered (in one way or another). ofc not to the kidnapper if he decides to "come clean".

bottom line is that to many ppl that doesn't have anything to do with that kid is making to much money on this. even those donations are questionable imo, unless its for reward purposes..........

i mean, its kinda like "my kid is kidnapped, give me money to comfort myself with!".

i just hope they find her alive...

It's funny when people state that they didn't have to get the media involved, getting the media involved increases the chance of saving that poor little kid.

Chances are she's dead. Not alot can be done about that, but saying you don't care is harsh, it dosn't effect my life in the slightest but it's the fact you put yourself in the parents shoes and imagne how they would feel, granted the parents are complete fuckwits for leaving there daughter in the first place but they never expected this and no parents would ever want this.

As for people who die of starvation in Africa? you could devote a whole fucking paper to that, there are endless comercials and why would we advertise that when it's mainly our though? we could fix that, just call of the debt then they'd be able to start living a proper life, but no this country and other countrys need to suck everything out of that country.

not sure if its been mentioned but in the metro this morning police now reckon she died in the flat, british sniffer dogs found blood on the walls, it had been wiped off. Now police think she may have died in an abduction bungle

I heard that but it makes no sense, how do you bungle abducting a child to the point where the child dies, it's not like you have to use much force to subdue a child I mean I could somewhat understand smothering or something along those lines but nothing that would draw blood, we will see, it will probably turn out to be the parents doing.

I think the parents have something to do with it.

I wonder how many times they prayed or went to the little church in Portugal when they were on the holiday before the abduction. I for one am sick to fucking death of them telling me how they went to church to pray.

It will be interesting to see what comes of this new evidence about the blood in the flat, especially if it turns out to be hers.
If it is they will either be looking as a child abductor with an OCD cleaning disorder, or the parents have a lot of questions to answer. One report said that the evidence may well point to the fact she died 2 hours before leaving the flat, in which case the parents would have known if they were going back every 30 minutes, etc. This could well be the evidence that tips the case.
This case reminds me a lot of the Ben Needham case, where there is a good chance that Ben was taken by the brother (or was it cousin?) on his moped and was killed accidently and then had the body hidden..... Not that anyone would ever dare make that accusation in public.

You say that as if you think I'm lieing. You might think there's not a lot of difference between two people, one of whom says "I care" and one who says "I don't care". If neither of them are actively doing anything. But beleive me there's a world of difference. Which I'm pretty glad about atm :p

I never claimed to be doing anything. I don't support Madeline's parents. And short of going outside and knocking on doors in my neighbourhood, asking if they have Madeline, there's not a lot I can do.

My point was, compassion costs nothing. I don't understand why you can't even feel sorry for the girl. Why do you have to go out of your way, and NOT sympathise with her at all? Sympathy is one of the most basic human attributes there is. And you're over-riding it because of what, the media? If you let the media affect you, even if it's in a "I hate the media it's shit and annoying" way. You're just as susceptible to brainwashing as the "sheep" public that beleives everything they read.

im not going out my way, im sure OD isnt either. but i cant force my self to feel sorry, sympathy is there or it isnt and forcing it is like false caring. if my brain doesnt want to trigger sympathy mode then thats out my conscious control.

Psychopaths lack the ability to sympathise. You should have sympathy for them! :)

Well here goes then.

A: Saying things like "People are stupid for being media sheep" or "People are silly/dumb for not caring." and especially making poor jokes about the situation is rather juvenile behaviour. I mean, let people have their opinions, there's no need to bash someone just because they think this or that.

B: About this kid. I don't care what happens and i understand why tris- and OD don't care either. Also i understand why people DO care, mostly 'cause it's brought to their attention. Both sides have their reasons not to/to care, both equally valid in regards to the person saying them, so i'll leave it at that.

Now, why i don't care about what happens?

First thing is, i've only seen glimpses of this on this forum, otherwise, not many outside nations care even enough to report it. So it's just another person gone missing in the world, and as such, noone special. I'll explain a bit more.

From various sites:

"Around 30,000 people go missing in Australia every year..."
"Nearly 800,000 children disappear every year in the United States. While 99 percent of those children are found, the one percent who are not represent 5,000 to 10,000..."

And so on, not exact statistics, but close enough to give an idea.. If i really cared what happened to one person, i'd have to care for all those people too. And that would mean a lot of hours of watching videos/photos and trying to help each and everyone, and also many, MANY sleepless nights.

So you can see why it's basic human nature not to care about everyone. It's just not possible. Ofcourse if you hear about a kidnapping, you might say "Well, i hope they find her/him.", but that's about as far as it goes. You can also switch channel and not think about it, it's nothing "stupid/silly", as stated before.

The statement "What if it was your mhmhmhm,,,", is not really valid, as personal friends/family do effect your life in a way that you can't avoid.

C: The media coverage. It's true that 'cause this is a white(it's an issue), rich kid, it gets more media coverage. This is partly because other people like to see rich people get hurt(think about it), partly because they have the cash to pull strings and mostly because the media coverage snowballed due to enough people reading/taking interest in it.

D: The charity. This matter is rather simple; if it was a "save lost kids" foundation, it would be a nice effort and supported around the world, but because it's a "save our kid" foundation, it's not. Nothing special there.

E: This issue in all. Well, i'd say put this dog to rest. The first 48 hours are critical in finding a missing person, this has gone for 1200 hours. The critical hours are about 2% of the time used in this already. Sometimes it's time to give up and accept the loss, start grieving and so forth.

There was a person who was lost here in finland, a friends friends older brother. Didn't bother me much, it was just a person i knew, and after two weeks of police searching(which was quite a time, but the local police wasn't too busy at the moment), people had the common sense of letting go partly.

I think this would be the time, due time, for accepting some facts.

That's my views, let the neysay begin :)

The quality of the joke is important?

Actually I shouldnt be getting involved, discussing DAOC and sharing DAOC info on the main UK DAOC forum I can justify, not sure about sniping at people on this thread. Soz guys.

Aye.

Some jokes are just rude/tasteless.
Some jokes lighten the mood, boost morale and help the issue.
Some jokes are funny after a bit of time.

Jokes like, "Oh i stuffed the kid in my pants and i won't let her go!", are just poor.

EDIT: No need to say "soz" or other internet lingual phrases, it was a valid question actually.

The problem with jokes is that what some find funny others will find in bad taste, I would rather they were still told and I could make my own mind up about them. Obvious a certain amount of respect has to be shown, but as long as the joke isnt relating to the person standing in front of you I have no problems.

Actually, if you can tell (as an example)a racist joke infront of a certain person, then you can tell it whereever you want. It shows more that you're not making fun of the race then telling it carefully behind a dumpster or somenot.

Otherwise i don't care about what jokes people crack, as long as they are good and in good taste.

has it passed the time where we can make jokes on this yet?

Almost two months? Yeah, i'd say so.

I don't know about others, but I never decided not to feel sorry about her, nor would I be able to decide to start feeling sorry for her. I just notice that I don't care. I never really cared, not even before the media circus. Whenever I hear about it now, I just think "Oh right, se's still not found,' and go on with my life. I would of course prefer her to be found alive, but I wouldn't lose any sleep over it if she were found dead.

Personally I care more about universals than about particulars. I don't care mr X in Africa dies of poverty, but what I do care about is the situation of the African continent. I will try to do something about that, but if there'd be an action to save Mr. X, I wouldn't be bothered. I do care about some particulars, but only those that relate to me.
