Hiya. I have just replied my Firm status on my application to University of Glasgow. Im currently pondering on the accomodation options. Is there anyone who's currently studying in Glasgow right now, or recently been studying there? A tip of where to apply for accomodation would be great!

Thanks,

zenith

For first year, stay in halls. They aren't bad at Glasgow. Admittedly I was there 14 years ago, so they've probably got better. Plus its a good way to make friends.

Just had a gander at the uni website, all the Uni owned accomidation looks fair decent tbh.

Queen Margaret looks pretty new.

presume you've looked at something like this? University of Glasgow :: Accommodation :: Accommodation If you want catered seems there's only one halls, the other 5 are self-catered

Oh and jsut as an aside, I've just been accepted into the 3 uni's i've applied to do my law course with, so i'm feeling rather happy about that :D

You'll be put in Murano halls I expect. I didn't realise you were an international student. They were freshly built when I started. They aren't too bad. But don't go into the pub across the road. Its grim.

Glasgow is alright ECA. The uni is based in the west end of Glasgow, which is pretty nice (more like Edinburgh than Glasgow tbh), and the nightlife is good.

Edinburgh is better though. ;)

I meant the city, not the Uni. Though if you like posh totty, Edinburgh Uni is the place.

You mean self-important, velvet jacket wearing, jolly hockey stick types that only give rugby playing rich kids a second look? ;)

That was the Bow Bar. A very different sort of pub again.

What sort of pubs / bars do you like?

Do you like studenty places, or trendy expensive bars? That should trim down some choices.

i know nothing of glasgow uni specifically but i would suggest your accommodation should be halls, self catering, ensuite if possible.

halls - cos you will make lots of friends this way
self catering cos: the catered food will be shite, its fun to cook (or live of pasta), lots of socialising happens in the kitchen in self catered
ensuite - most uni ensuites are 'pods' where you can basically shit, shower and shave ALL AT THE SAME TIME. its truly amazing.

He is Swedish. He obviously likes black metal, as all other forms of music are weak.

He he he.

Not that I dislike clubs but Im not sure the swedish clubs are the same as the brittish so I guess I wont really venture there too much. Not for trendy nor expensive, mostly nice little bars, but since Im a swede Im not used to straightout pubs. A little bit of reggae would just be another plus.

Do you know any decent boxingclubs down there? not for highlevel training but for excercise.... or any martialarts clubs, prefered brazilian jiujutzu.

The only Scottish black belt for BJJ teaches in Edinburgh. There is a class in Glasgow run by some pretty good guys, but it is aimed at MMA fighters, not just BJJ. The class could accomodate beginners, I expect.

In Glasgow, the Uni Sports Association has amateur boxing, judo, karate, kendo, muay thai, and shorinji kempo.

I endorse training for MMA, the cardio circuit training is insane.
