Heh heh, I know. I only get 2 nights off a week at the moment, and neither of them are spent down Union Street.

Bah, my plan was basically to carry on working, skip as much of the first year as humanly possible, pass the exams, all without having to wrry about the taxman stealing anymore of my paypacket.

I had one interview and a written test (which wasn't directly computing-related, presumably to see if you've got a brain outside computing). In the interview, they asked the usual questions like "Why do you want to come here?" and "What computing experience have you got?" and a few computing problems (mine were about sorting and searching algorithms).

The interview was fairly relaxed, even if there were 2 teachers in the room with me :uhoh: Plus they had nice comfy sofas :)

One of #hellborn s finest (qmole) was also off to umist and they seriously fkd up his accom too.
Being the kind soul I am (and knowing a few of the Wardens at the manc halls) I asked about it. Turns out Uni of Man has 4000 (!) more students going than expected. UMIST and Man Met are also up on numbers. Just shows what the Commonwealth Games can do (Manchester = fashionable?).
Eitherway, got him a place in a house with some of my less scary friends.

Off into my 4th (and final) year at Uni of Man for my masters in astrophysics (erg) :)

Heh cool. For my preference college though, the prospectus has 'Interview only' ahh :). I've seen quite a few pictures in the prospectus of all their comfy sofas, looks like it helps make the supervisions more relaxed as well :).

Yep, me too.

I'm in the Britannia Hotel on Portland Street for up to 10 days.

The very same?

Worth pointing out that UMIST and Uni of Man use the same accommodation office. Because the unis used to be one institution and then split they still share the same accommodation. It's good cause you get a broader mix of people (not just techie types at UMIST).

However, in U-Man are 4000 over and UMIST are a bit over too then... bloody hell.

Apparently Uni of Man gets priority in mixed (Uni of Man & UMIST) halls.

This is also the first year the accomodation office has actively sorted the accomodation. Previously they just forwarded the applications to the relevant Halls, and let the Halls pick (vaguely similar to Ucas). This year they're the ones who assign you places, so pleading with the Warden doesn't help :)

Also worth adding the accom office have been arsey with me every time I've spoken to them - my 2nd year in particular.

Hmm, also worth mentioning their database has been crashing every day and this year is being done by hand \o/

No... they tried to put me in there, but I made a bit of a fuss as once I've moved in I have no means of moving my stuff from a hotel into a hall, so I needed to be as close to campus as possible.

Therefor they're putting me in the weston hotel (next to weston hall) which is basically on campus too, and owned by UMIST. And it also means I don't have to share a room :)

i went up and stayed with a m8 for 2 days in his freshers week at Kent Uni in Canterbury. It was absolutely class - and all the chicks here are absolutely fine. i live about 10mins drive from the uni which is nice. i should have gone to UKC but i wanted to get further away from home - which is pretty silly whereas i would have been away from home if i stayed in UKC anyway (sort of)

anyway, yes.

goodday to you all
