You describe trial by jury as nirvana? Normally that's reserved for an unachievable utopian state not a centuries-established fundamental principle of justice.

According to the IFS there's been a 33% cut in justice spending since 2007/8 with capital spending cuts in the 2010's of up to 70% that led to court closures.

Now spending is back to historical levels we're still suffering from those deep fiscal shocks but, (thanks to supercharged legal immigration! *gasp!*) per-person spending is about 20% lower than historical levels.

So here's the fix - take the money we gave to the rich people on the back of the 2008 financial crash and rebuild our decimated system of justice and restore it to it's former function.

It's not a fucking crime wave - it's policy choices.

We should be fucking rioting over the possibility of losing a fundamental pillar of justice - not aquiescing to a state judge and jury system (and maybe if reform get in also an executioner?)

It's a fucking disgrace. Trial by a jury of peers is globally, rightly, regarded as a jewel in the crown of justice - and this wanky government is making (yet another) bad choice.

Ooof. You're ok with the state deciding the future of people.

Already happens in summary offences. I don't see much outrage about that.

Maybe you'd like to sit on a jury for 12 months deciding someone's guilt in an extremely complex financial case?

And 75% of them are motoring offences - and the vast majority of them are sorted by post when people plead guilty to speeding and get a fine.

Er no, you get a letter offering you the option of a fine, a course, or to defend the matter in court. So no, the vast majority of motoring offences in court are not sorted by post.

They're counted like that.

Better than working. And I already commented on this - as have judges. (Better outcomes with juries is the tl:dr version).

I didn't realise juries were currently involved in the decision to kick people out of shops... no wonder there's such a backlog.

There's no point in discussion if you deliberately misconstrue the obvious points being made.

Laying the groundwork for a dictatorship and America is too blind to see it.

America doesn't matter any more, democracy is dead. Voting will be rigged and Dems won't see power at presidential level again for.. A while.

But then I'm hoping I'm wrong. November midterms will tell you exactly what the next electoral run outcome will be.

Assuming Trump doesn't succeed in rigging the midterms, when his term is up, he'll literally have to be dragged out of the White House by Federal authorities I would imagine because he knows a lot of potential prison level suits are waiting for him, he can't pardon himself either because some of them are state suits, which presidents can't pardon for.

If he could monetize pictures of his shits he would do it. How the fuck can he be President is mind boggling.

Because a lot (not all) of Americans are fucking stupid? thats how he's president :p

Edit: Also helps that America is the most corrupt nation on the planet right now under him, it puts China and Russia to shame in terms of corruption.

China and Russia to shame in terms of corruption.

If doesn't put them to shame, it makes it visible at a world stage. Cheeto is probably doing what everyone has been doing behind closed doors but at a much more exaggerated rate. We have very little (if any) oversight into any corruption into the east, even if it does happen at least not at the same VISIBLE level as the US.

Russia? Well.. I heard they like 3 day excursions.

Totally agree with that take actually.

The USA isn't even trying to hide it now though, just out in the open-no fucks given corruption because orange piss baby knows he can get away with it.

Meanwhile, in the real world...

That's because of two things - 1) a narrative around Trump (which is far from politically neutral) and, importantly, 2) sheer fucking idiocy across huge swathes of the planet.

In other news - X-Factor, whilst being hugely popular, was no arbiter of 'good music'. It's popularity was an indicator of something very different indeed.

50% of people are dumber than you think they are, and even that statistic is probably 50% higher than it should be.

Also, how dare you say One Direction aren't the best band in the world of all time (Sorry, just threw up on myself)

When you own all 3 areas of the government you're pretty much immune to the FO potion of FAFO - It'll take something to implode internally to make it all stop imho. Or something truly "Nope. That's the line you shouldn't have crossed" - But no idea what that line could be considering what all the other lines have been.

100% of humans are dumber than we think we are.

Even the 200+ IQers who know we're dumb are wrong about how dumb we are. (But they probably know they're wrong too).

It's funny, when we're allowed to call people stupid and when we're not. Vote for Brexit or Trump? These people are protected and their intelligence must absolutely not be questioned. Suggest that you see China more favourably than the US right now in some poll? Fucking stupid fucks.

Not that it'll amount to anything but Democrats have invoked the 25th Amendment.

Edit: or at least they're "moving" on it, doesn't appear to be official yet

If anyone sees China more favourably than the US they are stupid.

The moral panic, however justified, over Trump does not equal China looking OK in any way.

You have to have very special selective magic mind-glasses to see that...
