Arthwyr: I think it was in 1.46 or so they did something with stealth so you couldn't be INVISIBLE.. some radius thing, heard of it?

Apparently stealthers don't show up on radar, so you simply got owned.

Doesn't the rader thingy work like a simple packet sniffer? In which case stealthers would still show up no problems at all.

Surely that would depend on if the server bothers sending information on players that it has decided you cant actually see. After all it is the server that decides on when you see a stealther and not the client, if it does still send locs of stuff you cant see then that could be a good place for some optimisation to reduce bandwidth consumption.

Dunno but I do remember someone saying on a similar thread that stealthers were 'immune' to radar but then again it is heresay so I could not say for certain.

It wouldn't make sense to send location of players that are invisible to you, that's asking to be abused (think the Diablo II exploit using the fact that item statistics were sent for every item at the 'gambler' NPC)

Radar would still help for stealthers that are very faintly visible, but in that case you should have payed more attention in the first place :)

And yes, it's a very lame thing to do :puke:
Just like any maphack it's pretty much impossible to counter, though they might be able to remove at least part of the cases where you see a person on radar while (s)he is clearly not visible by LoS. Even a very rough LoS calculation would probably bog the servers down way too much though :(

surely it has to send the info of stealthed players to you

for when ppl with see hidden need to know pos to display or for when ppl try to stealth to get the 'enemy to near'

personally i dont believe their capable of coding it so the information sent to u is dependant on your class / ras I think its morelikely they send all the information then leave it to the client to display or not dependant on class/ras. So i pretty firmly believe any half decently coded radar cheat will easily display the locs of ALL players, stealthed or not.

In fact that's pretty easy to code, very cheap (as in: not much work for the server) and it would be stupid not to do so.

Otherwise it would be pretty easy to code a simple patch to the client to give everybody permanent True Sight, regardless of class or realm..

When solo I had only one encounter with someone who I suspected to have a radar. It was some chanter at amg in odins who split from his group stared in my direction from nearly clip range then ran in my directino and started pbaoeing ... I moved locations to and observed him hover around my old spot pbaoeing. 5 mins later ... same chanter homes in on me again at another spot again casting pbaoe every few steps. Now I can imagine its very hard for the radar program to give the exact location of a player and i do wonder how accurate it is but incase of a non stealther it would be sufficient to point you in his general direction and I suppose its a accurate enough to bring you into clip range. Therefore It probably does give the general position of a stealther but unless you are an assassin yourself it would probably still be like seeking a needle in a haystack (bah dont know how to spell that but hey I'm not english)

Reason I posted is that whenver we are resting these days we seem to get jumped by certain groups or they always show up at the most conveniant times at the most unconveniant places... coincidence ? maybe but I'm not sure it still doesnt change the way I feel about cheating.

What patch was this in, or does it still happen?

Because I know stealther did used to show up on radars :(
They actually banned someone from the US server by tricking him into following a stealth char that was actually a Mythic Employee or something, don't remember exactly.

Well the radar is be able to give an exact loc IF it can detect stealthers (not sure of patch versions tho).
Maybe it was just the bug where if a stealther enters clipping range you see him for a second.

take the name, report it to RightNow along with a place and a time.

if he's usin radar it'll be pretty easy to spot :)

Dunno about this but i have been noticing it alot lately, alot of people using these kind of programs for sure. Did you report this guy? i really hope so, i suggest we all do this even if we are not 100%, ruins the fun for some people.

aye, cheaters ruin the game.

If you think someone's cheating and it's happened more than once (you can get lucky and run the right direction.. or catch a flicker of someone in the distance, a lag ghost or whatever... but if they do it repeatedly... something's amiss) as in this case.

Report them.

If they are cheating they'll get banned or whatever, if not then no harm done.

Aye all cheaters should be banned because they ruin the fun for everybody else. But did you stop to consider maybe a nearby ns spotted you and proceeded to direct the chanter into your direction?

ROFL @ Nova :)

Shame we can't xp anymore, was fun that one time in DF :)

And indeed cheaters are lame, the stupid thing is that Mythic can't find em without watching them 24/7. Which is in my eyes weird because this is an online only playable game... Considering that people can cheat with certain tools almost makes me think they did something wrong in the way of the communication works between client and server...

I just hope this game doesn't fall apart by sing cheats.. CS did for me and it's never fun to quit a game you like...

The way Mythic deals with suspected radar cheaters is by putting a character just under the ground, invisible and untargettable. When a suspect continuously walks to those spots he's toast.

and goa?? what do they do?

i am 'hoping' that the reason they dont announce when they catch radar users is because they dont want to publicise it.

the alternative that they dont give a dam is too depressing to contemplate.

Read rumors of perma-TS a while back, but I sure as hell hope it's just rumors... It'd mean Mythic's dumber than a box of rocks, for one thing.
