Ubuntu

Is driving me mad, can't get the bastard to run now, it wasn't recognising my realtek network card and didn't come with a compiler :|

....and yes I am aware it's Ubuntu and not Unbuntu before the spelling police arrive to make an arrest!

Seems like a waste setting up a perfectly good RH and then using it for your average home tasks :/

Ubuntu is an excellent distro, I still personally take Fedora over Ubuntu but tbh, it's all becoming more and more mainstream anyway.

Got no clue what Gam is using it for though. Saying that, I'm not sure what I'd rather use from Linux distros tbh.. Had my hands on SuSE in high-school. Some peon installed it on their laptop and let me use it. They had no clue, heh. (Well, neither did I xD But I got the idea of it pretty fast) I'd most probably have Fedora as my home OS (If I somehow stopped using XP) then have RH as my server. (If I get it running in 08) EVEN THOUGH, everyone is saying Ubuntu is better.

One day, while Microsoft were ruling the world.. A small Open Source group of programmers decided to make a Open Source operating system called.. LINUX! This operating system (Along with other Unix based operating systems) slowly became more popular amongst the techie community. Now, Linux and their several distros (google: Define Distro) have conquered the IT Admin world and have been known to be better than Microsoft in certain areas.

That reminds me... I need to learn Novell xD Stupid Unix based fuckers.

Pretty good idea tbfh. Might actually buy myself a 2nd HDD (Or get one next month for my bday) and stick Linux on one partition annnnd stick Solaris on the other (Is good if you have both tbh, my ex's mate Keith is a Solaris Admin and he said it was a good idea to use that aswell)

Silly Gamah being 2-3 years(?) older than me and 2-3 years ahead in business :(

Imo ubuntu is a great choice for desktop or if you just want to play around with linux. Fast release cycle, and you can get fairly recent versions of software from the default repositories, while the "server distros" tend to be geared more towards stability, usually resulting in older software versions. Also, it is very popular amongst hobbyists... which means lots of hits on google searches when you have a problem, even on very latest hardware.
