UKOnline 22mbit ADSL2+. I was amazed, I was already on 8mbit and saw the upgrade was available on Monday. Applied at 19:20 - order received at 19:22 line upgraded at 19:23, adsl2+ modem arrived this morning and I got 20mbits as soon as I plugged it in. Not bad tbh.

For NTL customers

http://www.cableforum.co.uk/article/203/10-mbps-rollout-to-commence-on-november-8th

NThellWorld originally said:
According to information received from a number of sources by Cable Forum, ntl are to commence the rollout of the new 10 Mbps service from Tuesday November 8th.

According to the information provided to us, the new service will be available from today. Initially it should be for existing 3 Mbps customers, and it comes with a new 75GB monthly download allowance, the price will currently remain the same – at £37.99 per month.

So far it appears that no automatic upgrades are happening, but the new option is available to new customers, and people who upgrade from lower tiers. Sources from ntl tell us that existing 3 Mbps customers should contact the retentions department and request the new service.

According to ntl, once the rollout to existing 3 Mbps customers has been completed, the rollout to the 2 Mbps & 1 Mbps customers will commence in 2006. The price of these is also expected to remain the same (at £24.99 and £17.99). They will however have lower monthly limits (the current 30GB and 3GB respectivly being the most likely values).

Cable Forum also believe that ntl have plans to offer a number of lower speed ‘uncapped’ services. They have already indicated that heavy users will be moved to a 512Kbps uncapped service at £17.99, we believe that further services for £24.99 and £37.99 will also be offered, the most likely speeds being 1Mbps and 2Mbps. We will of course keep you informed as more information becomes available.

Oh, and:

http://www.cableforum.co.uk/article/200/ntl-to-downgrade-heavy-broadband-users

www.cableforum.co.uk said:
Cable Forum has received confirmation today that ntl are going to downgrade persistent heavy broadband customers later this month, to a unlimited 512K service. ntl in August this year stated to us that they had started to write to their small percentage of customers who exceed their fair usage limit excessively and strongly advised them to curb their usage.

An ntl statement states:-

“Further to our note in August about our fair usage policy, just to confirm the vast majority of customers who received the letter changed their online usage. This week we are writing to thank them for their response and to confirm that the move to 10Mb remains on track. 3Mb customers will be upgraded later this year, 1Mb and 2Mb customers in 2006.

Unfortunately a small number of users haven’t changed their usage – some have consistently topped 500GB per month. This is a severe abuse of our published fair usage policy and has the potential to impact on other customers locally. Therefore we are also writing to this group to confirm that we will take action as outlined in the previous letter.

More usage, less speed:

Later this month we will transfer them to a new service. We understand that usage is important to them so their new service will provide unlimited Internet usage at download speeds of up to 512Kbps. The price will be £17.99 per month and we will change the amount charged automatically.

Usage guidelines allow us to provide higher speeds and other services. In 2006 we will offer even more Broadband choice, including a full range of services with unlimited usage allowances.”

Oooo, norty warez addicts!

*gives Nath AIDS*

If my mum wasn't such a selfish bitch she would of given birth right by an exchange instead of the maximum distance away. Yes I live with my mrs but its still my mums fault....and Naths.

Bah, I too should be wallowing in 24Mb goodness, but despite saying I was in an enabled exchange, this is what I've been getting for the last few weeks:

Was tempted with this, till I saw the fuckers don't even cover down here. Guess I'll just have to wait for Telewest to get their fingers out of their ass and upgrade out 1MB line to 4MB. Then, maybe up it to 10 ;)

Have you contacted BY, Whipped?
TW recently upgraded my "BY Complete" package from 1M/128k to 4M/384k.

I first noticed when bittorrent was uploading at 40KB/s.
So I tested my download, which capped at 450KB/s. yaaaaaaaar! \o?

Can anyone recommend Be There? They're meant to be in my area soon.

btw, FU Nath :D

Something strange from theregister.

Very underwhelming. Tried to get 24Mb with them and they kept screwing up my order. CS response was always really slow as well. I've cancelled and placed an order with UKOnline now, but the jury's out on them as well tbh. The whole LLU process seems very hit and miss.

Got free upgrade from 2m to 4m with BY but I intend to downgrade again as I have no wish or need to download so much crap that it would require such a speed.

I don't see the point unless you spend your entire life downloading shit that you'll use once and burn.
