If they actually looked at the problem at hand they'd realise that it isn't the price that is causing binge drinking its the culture that we have bred/live in. We need to tackle the reasons why this has developed / contiunes before we start to look at ways to reduce it.

Exactly, so fucking sad, but true :)

Something big going to happen on pricing of alcohol it seems, lots of talk going on at the moment, "lager cheaper than water", they're going to try and take more affirmitive action on the way.

think it was sainsbury's on radio news i heard walking home, trying to get all the other supermarkets to join together in changing the price of alcohol, they wont do it solo obviously but unitedly they will

Wonderful, the supermarkets want to up their profit margins! If the suppliers or source does it fine, if the governments increases taxes on it ok but supermarkets! Why the hell should they make extra profits from it.

UK is going f*cking mental!

To be honest it's another pointless waste of time discussion where the govt. can be seen to be doing something without actually doing anything. They have no right to meddle in our lives when it comes to a free choice to drink something (don't say what about drugs because I think they should all be legal too).

If they actually looked at the problem at hand they'd realise that it isn't the price that is causing binge drinking its the culture that we have bred/live in. We need to tackle the reasons why this has developed / contiunes before we start to look at ways to reduce it.

lol brits have been getting smashed for generations. Its nothing new. Coal pits and mill factories used to employ people to go round the pubs at dinnertimes and pull the workers out

Didn't Thatcher fund Hussein in the Iran-Iraq war?

Also didn't she get totally owned by Geldof?

She wasn't bad for the country - but she wasn't perfect.

Hard alcohol i believe?

If it's anything like in finland, ciders, beer, etc in any store with rights and the "hard stuff" and wines in, did you call it systembolaget or some such? *grin*

went out for lunch yesterday and i had one wine and soda which was £3.50 and then 2 soda waters...which is just carbonated water, not mineral water just fizzy tap and they were £1.50 each! it really takes the piss that the governcocks say "oh cut down on your drinking you reprobates!" then charge a fortune for soft drinks.

i dont give a hoot anyway, bastards take away the fags and the booze, theyll be taxing me sodding donuts next.

theyre talkig about giving fattys money as an incentive to lose weight.

good way to encourage obesity i reckon.

you could pile on fat for cheap, then lose it and be in a profit.

Or you could use it to buy more pies.

Choke on their own vomit hopefully.

I've given up any hope of the UK Government being able to do anything right anymore, and i'm actually hoping that the conservatives win the next elect, I really do. I don't support them but I wish Labour would bloody well disappear in a flash.

Labour now are doing exactly what my dad used to tell me the conservatives did which was make the rich, richer and the poor, poorer - which has been happening every day under Labour for the past few years now.

Labour haven't done anything to help the country but rather done everything to monitor and control the people.

one has red colours and one blue...

these days thats about the only difference. It used to be labour was for the unions, workingmmans party etc and conservatives were more laissez faire and ran the country while letting the local governments sweat the smaller matters...i think.

however these days the tories are pretty much equal to labour in that respect although cameron has now ditched his "hug a hoodie" mentality and is trying to be all winston churchil/margaret thatcher ish... however I dont know if its working but if he sticks to his harder line i'd vote for him (yes yes im a facist oooh naughty me)

id vote for which ever makes me more prosperous without fucking up the country, cos i think thats all that matters these days.

sure our country is rich, but your average joe doesnt have fuck all. and with essential things increasing in price, with tiny pay increases, well have even less.

You talking about goverment as in governcocks? If so its not they who charge you so much for the water its the bar owner, its a way for them to make an extra buck. When i was working in a bar 10-15% of the sales where from water, and when you earn 5000E+ per night thats quite alot of money, hell if you only earn 500 euro, and 1% is from water it will add up over the year.

And when it comes to fat tax, they should increase the tax on foodstuffs that contains high ammount of suger, fat etc. like crisps, burgers, etc. or they could lower the tax on greens.

And i like out Systembolaget, they got it all, and if the dont have it in, just ask and they order it for you. And if you having a nice dinner party and dont know what to serve as drink, ask the staff and they normally know what you should serve with the food.

And in Sweden you are allowed sell cider/beer up to 3.5% at the local grocery, everything above it is for Systemet. But we had some problems with kids buying the 3.5% cider to get drunk so most of the ciders at the grocery today are alcohol free. While buying beer and tobacco you need to be 18 the grocer, 20 at systemet.
