Something big going to happen on pricing of alcohol it seems, lots of talk going on at the moment, "lager cheaper than water", they're going to try and take more affirmitive action on the way.

think it was sainsbury's on radio news i heard walking home, trying to get all the other supermarkets to join together in changing the price of alcohol, they wont do it solo obviously but unitedly they will

Aye, was reading about it on bbc news website before :) curious what they will do tbh! knowing the government probably some bent rule like "Limit to how much people are legally allowed to buy" which no one will clearly listen to... corner shops and smaller retailers wont anyway.

doesnt matter if all supermarkets change. still be off licences selling it cheap as chips. Either that or the dover-calais ferry crossing is gonna make a mint...

If there's an issue of Lager being cheaper than water, look at the price of water. The planet is 70% covered in it ffs :)

They're not going to increase the price of alcohol
They're not going to get tougher with licencing laws
They're not going to ban alcohol

...they're going to ban people

Think about it. Would solve a lot of problems...

Personaly, the government is pretty pussy on the whole subject.
They don't want minors drinking. But as long as there are alcho-pops and chep cider its not gonna happen. One time all you had was beer, gin, whisky and vodka, until some frigging pussy drinker decided he wanted to drink alchohol that didn't taste so strong (Wuss).

The second you make it taste like candy, its just going to encourage people to drink more, and of course there going to be dicks and say "Hey, my kid brother can drink this, its easy." and he'll go ahead and buy the stuff for a 13 year old. Cider.... worse fucking mistake they ever made with apples. If it tastes like the inside of a well worn boot, then of course kids are not gonna want to drink it, problem solved.

"If you don't like the taste, don't fucking drink it" after all its not like anyones gonna force 'em too. Only people with testicals and some goddamn pride will drink it, cos they wont give a flying fuck about the taste.

I used to get it alot when ?I went out, being called a mug because I drank whiskey and vodka straight, whilst those calling were knocking back WKD for fun. By the end of the night, I was tucking into a giant donna-on-nan whilst they were being sick in a bush and complaining they were not feeling well. After watching it happen to more and more people who had started going out to the same places we did, friends of mine and myself began to worry if we were the last real men alive.

I firmly beleive that if you want someone to stop binge drinking and serving to minors, you catch them and make them clean up their own mess. As for the kids who drank the booze? I can thin of plenty of streets that need cleaning, beauty spots that need tidying up, walls that need cleaning (because of graffiti). Should chew up all that free time they were spending on getting pissed.

They gonna curb the nations drinking (through tax probably) and make drinkers social vermin. Simply spread disinformation and hype about it and you can pretty much pick on any social group.

Where we seen that before?

Oh yeah ..... same tac they took with smokers.
Now although I do smoke I dont drink that much. So all you self rightious bastards who supported the smoking ban... how you feel now that the attention is on something you enjoy?

Hate to say it, but you'd never have had this kind of bullshit under the Tories.

Give the labour party 10 years of government and the whole of Britain goes to the dogs.

Nah the long slow ostracisation of smokers was going strong during Thatchers years. You could argue she made more efforts to curb smoking than anyone.

After all ..... if everyone is unemployed they cant afford to smoke now can they?

lol. the troies are like the usa republicans. anyone with half a brain can see the labour under blair did a fantastic job, like clinton in the states. however as usual people are never satisfied and will knock a good and then realise after its gone how good they actually had it.

Yeah, because making the gap between rich and poor bigger in the last 10 years is really good, isn't it? especially form a party that is supposed to the left wing.

I'm going to get my cider-press out this weekend then, in prep for the big increase in taxes!

It'll probably be stronger and nicer anyway lol!

It's probably the same as Finland, so it's 18% on some stuff, and 22% on basic food/drink stuff.

Like a general tax on everything.

Alcohol is cheaper then water, almost, here too. Even if they did up the price at the year-change.

Still, a litre of normal whisky for 22-23euros, not bad.

NO NO AND NO.

Good god, there's been more legislation put in right under our noses to control the people than anyone else TBFH.

Labour have done nothing but talk shit for the past few years - oh and let's not forget the fact that they still won't give the population - a DEMOCRATIC population - the choice over certain big decisions, no, they just sit on their fucking arses in the house of commons most likely pissed from their private bar coming up with ideas that they found half way up their bloody arses.

We may as well be living under a bloody dictatorship under Labour.

To be honest it's another pointless waste of time discussion where the govt. can be seen to be doing something without actually doing anything. They have no right to meddle in our lives when it comes to a free choice to drink something (don't say what about drugs because I think they should all be legal too).

If they actually looked at the problem at hand they'd realise that it isn't the price that is causing binge drinking its the culture that we have bred/live in. We need to tackle the reasons why this has developed / contiunes before we start to look at ways to reduce it.

well the labour government is fucking useless but there just isnt any worthy opposition, thats why nobody bothers voting, labour only wins because the only people that bother voting are the labour supporters.
