UK faces massive premium for PS3

America pays $600 for the 60gb version and even with the pound being so strong in the exhange rates at the moment we are going to end up paying $847. That is a near $250 mark up, well over £100 more for the same fucking thing. How can they be allowed to get away with that?

Given what you have said regarding the PS3 there is no way in hell I am buying one for those kinda prices, i wonder if we have shelves lined with unsold PS3's here like in the US

ALso that is taking into consideratin that you are getting over 2 dollars for your 1 pound I think a more realistic cost would be to say that you are pretty much gonna be paying an extra £150 more.

If you browse the internet you will also find alot of people with positive reviews. But i think the best thing to do will be to wait for a more stable firmware that dose all that you want. So as much as i want one and would like one now i may decide to wait for some of the games i have been looking forward too.

After the tax of 17.5 % gets added the mark up they make is still nothing compared to what they lose on the blu ray drives. Also i do not see this as treating the UK market like shit they delayed release to make sure there were enough consoles for people to buy. It also sounds like we will get a better version of the console with scaling included and backward compatibility issues sorted plus who knows what else will be fixed by march.

It is up to you if you like the console but sony are not charging any more on import than any other company dose so thats not a reason to hate them imo. Sure if you just do not want a blu ray playing media center PC that happens to play HD games it might be too expensive for you.

Obviously this news doesn't bother me too much, but an increase in price was to be expected.

To be honest, right now, if any of you were to ask me which system to get, I'd say the 360 without a doubt.

In 6 months? ps3.

Another thing to consider, the ps3 has a HD capable drive (Blu ray) already integrated, for the 360 you need to pay £120? for the drive.

Add £120 to the 360 premium price for it to equal the ps3 basic pack (20gb hdd, no wifi, 1 controller (still wireless)

The ps3 premium pack of course has a 60gb hdd, integrated g standard wireless.

Right now the current game set out for the ps3 doesn't justify the expense. I have mine because as an early adoptor with the ps3 I knew i'd be bored in terms of games, however there are advantages in terms of early versions of the firmware.

With regards to scaling and backwards compatibility, this has been fixed for the most part, most of the scaling issues (not all) are resolved and apparently ps2/ps1 games are now fixed.

MGS and GT will be the only real games other than FF (HOPE they re-rel FF7) that I want to play.

I just bought it 'cause it was fun and had fun games.

@Tohtori: I do. I don't really care who releases it, to me it depends on the games that are coming out. Sony have allways delivered (Console wise) compared to other consoles (Well, maybe apart from the 64; which kicked ass)

Hate sony or love them. Most of you will end up owning one at one point.
