I run SETI on and off, and looked at this UD thing. The thing that bothered me about it though, as the fact that it seemed to be optimised for P4s... with Intel being a sponsor of the project.

Seems to go against the grain of distributed computing somewhat.

erm, this thing is f00ked on my PC, it takes up 100% CPU usage, which is kinda crummy

my CPU temp is through the roof, well 50oC....
is there anyway to stop doing this. Ive had probs with programs not using the spare cycles, i think its a problem with the P2 Cely range, anyone had probs?

Its not fooked, it uses 100% CPU. Basically its set to the lowest priority which makes sure it gives up the CPU for any thing else that requires it. For example:

As I write this reply it requires no real CPU usage and thus the UD client is taking 90%-99% CPU usage.

Processors are designed to run like this and it won't fail....you've not OCed your processor?

ah i see, i got the wrong idea from the webby.

no the processor aint OC'ed, so im guessing that my cooling is fucked, although its always ran hot.

im gonna stop running this thing for this week, cant afford to lose my comp this week, stupid uni work

Yeah, sadly that's my view. I don't trust my cooling system to be able to cope with my CPU at 100% for extended periods.

Mine runs at 54-55 degrees C when its running SETI (or anything intensive for that matter). Luckily I know if it gets too hot the CPU will just slow down till the temp returns to normal. Gotta love Intel sometimes

Mine hits 48... Although mine will burn itself to a crisp if the Delta dies. God I hate AMD.

should i get a nice shiny P3 maybe P4 or a FAF (fast as fuck) new AMD?

im a little concerned about how hot AMD's run....

Easy solution to stop worrying about amd's overheating:

1. Ignore the temp sensors
2. Dont install any temp monitoring software

That way youll never know (and therefore never have to worry)

Should my fan every fall off, I dount it, then my computer will shut down at 70c. Under full load it only runs at 48c.

Judging by the experiments done at Tom's Hardware, the temp sensor wont react quickly enough and your PC will burn. HAEHAHE

Use your fucking brain Embattle. Accidents happen, it's just good to know that some companies take precautions towards this happening.

Did I say it never happens...No. I've never heard of it happening so its a very nice feature that is unlikely to be needed by most people.
