UBB Admins..read please...

I tried to find out the e-mail address of the BW UBB admin, but (perhaps) wisely, they have kept it hidden.

I was somewhat disappointed that my thread on the Tribes forum, entitled "Tribesplayers.co.uk" was locked after a matter of days. Considering it is a community project, and I was simply asking for input from the community as to what they would like to see from this site.

Now, apparantly, such a thread was considered advertising, and was locked. However, what about all the people that have their clan/homepage URL's after their name? As a sig? is this also classed as advertising (by your rules it should be!).

But my point is this: The first post to my initial Tribesplayers.co.uk message was from someone who is affiliated with QuakeNation - telling me that I shouldn't be even considering running such a site, because there are 'better people' - I don't even know the guy! he certainly doesn't know me! - yet this opinion can be formed? how?

But, the biggest bug bear I have, is the fact that the admin then said that if I spammed this board, like I spammed the Webboard, he would remove me/my posts.

This immediately got my interest, you see, I have only ever posted to the old webboard twice in its existence. Once to tell everyone about the Starseige Launch Party at the Playing Fields, and again to clarify a point raised by a replier about the availability of free beer.

Do these two posts constitute spamming? I think not..

The fact is, that the BW UBB admin's have completely the wrong end of the stick. Guys, ever heard of 'Cranky' ?? Ever heard of his favourite hobby?? Its called "Log on under someone elses nick (possible under the old webboard) and spam the boards" - he did it on the Planet-Tribes.com UBB, and the Cloud boards at http://www.leo.ucg.ie/boards.

--------------------------------------------

I've been playing Tribes since it appeared in the States. I *run* Planet-Tribes and the upcoming Tribesplayers.co.uk -- why would I want to cause problems eh? There is no reason, because I don't do it.

Closed minds gentlemen can be a dangerous thing.

See you on the servers!

I have to agree with Brit here, his two posts were concerning the UK Tribes community and his personal contribution to supporting it...

You all seem more than happy to afiliate with Quake Nation which in my opinion is fine and how it should be, but as yet there is no definitive site run or endorsed by BarrysWorld for Tribes...

Us Tribes players need more sites containing information about the game, maps and skins to download, information on scripting, hints, tips, whatever... Closing down that thread seemed a very petty thing to do under the circumstances...

Don't take this the wrong way, because if I meant it to be you'd see this information in my signature... I run the newly formed WirePlay Tribes League, we're just getting started but have 8 tribes registered and are growing fast... Now its always been my intention to not just have this league for tribes from WirePlay but those who play elsewhere too... Our current league leaders are Tribal Danzers who as you probably know play in the UKTL which BarrysWorld host...

Its my opinion that in a game which is still attracting an audience we should be looking to get more people involved on all services... I personally have a link to BarrysWorld on my WPTL site, its about building the community not trying to keep it all for yourselves...

Online services run very much on the good will of their customers and things like this show BarrysWorld in the same light many people perceive WirePlay (for example)... For online games to really take off in the UK we all need to support each other, not go round stabbing competitors (and Brit isn't even competiting with you!) in the back...

Anyway, I know for a fact you can't unclose a thread on these boards but I strongly feel it shouldn't have been closed in the first place... There is a big difference between advertising in the true sense of the word and informing a community of a resource site for their chosen game...

Just my two pennies worth...

Firstly,

at the bottom of every page is a "Contact Us" link that mails me. Ted was the person who closed the thread, his email, ted@barrysworld.com
