I have been listening to U2 recently, is there any other bands that peps could reccomed that are a similar sort of style?

U2 are one of those bands that can't be put in a box. Their style of music has changed quite a lot in 20 years, so I think anyone would find it difficult to recommend a similar type band.

try listening to some of the old simple minds stuff

If its early U2 .. then try Echo and The Bunnymen...Joy Division...anything labelled late 70s early 80s post punk.

The Walkmen's albums (from 2001 and 2004) 'Everyone Who Pretended To Like ME is Gone' and 'Bows & Arrows'
Bit harder, more paranoid and sparse than U2 stuff, but some very awesome tracks.

All these bands are merely hail from the same era. Not the same style.

The Frames?

Try and dig out some of the Big Country stuff - The Crossing, Steeltown, The Seer. It's similar to the 80's U2 stuff - October, War, The Unforgettable Fire.
