no offense, but if u get paid x0,000,000+€ per year, and miss a penalty... you are over paid.
Every player occasionally misses a penalty, regardless of the players individual skill level. The keeper always has a chance to anticipate.
Missing a penalty (or the equivalent in other sports) has nothing to do with the quality of the player and his value for the team. Otherwise you could say that Shaq O´Neil doesn´t deserve to earn money in the NBA because he´s unable to score more than 50% from the line.

They aint just paid to take penalties, that is just one small side of what they do. Footballers are, regardless of what people think, entertainers. People pay to watch them do what they do, this doesnt mean that when they occasionally fail to perform to the standard that is expected of them that they are suddenly shit.

Mistakes happen and /or keepers make amazing saves, this doesnt take away from the entertainment side of it, well maybe for the guys rooting for the penalty taker, as people are still entertained by the penalty.

If people are happy to pay this guy .....

tens of millions of dollars for making movies and these other people

only thousands of pounds for the entertainment they provide what conclusion does this lead you too?

Footballers are no different to movie stars they give you a 90 minute fix of entertainment and imho its far better entertainment then any film as you never ever know for sure what the end result is till its played out (unless ofc its England versus Germany and its come to penalties!!). So why shouldnt they get paid a salary that reflects their entertainment value?

Also: American sports don't have transfer fees like we do, they do it all on contracts, so say if a premiership club spend 20m on some random italian, the italian gets a percentage of the fee ussualy and then the lucrative contract after that as well as alot of bonuses like goals/clean sheets etc
